How to Create New Threads
A post on Threads has the capacity to incorporate text (with a maximum limit of 500 characters), links, and media files.
The following is an explanation of how this functions:
1.Locate and tap the new thread button within the menu. It is the central element that resembles a pencil and a notepad.
2.In the provided box, start typing your text, paste a link, or alternatively, tap the attachment icon to insert a photo or video.
3.If desired, tap "Add to thread" to further enrich your post. For instance, if your initial post consists of a link along with some text, this step allows you to append an image or extra text to the same post.
4.Finally, select "Post" to successfully create the thread.
How to Interact With a Thread
Threads enables you to interact with other users by liking, replying to, and commenting on their posts. Beneath each thread, you'll find four buttons for precisely these actions:
The heart - shaped button is used to like a post.
The speech - bubble button is for replying to a post.
The repost symbol allows you to quote or repost the thread.
The send button brings up another menu with multiple choices: Add the post to your story, post the thread to your feed, tweet it, copy the thread's link, or share a link to the post via a different application.
Understanding Threads' Privacy Settings
Privacy is a broad and significant subject overall, yet it holds particular importance when it comes to social media. With Threads, you have the ability to set your profile as either public or private, and you can also configure limited engagement for your posts and replies. The app's settings enable you to modify options related to mentions, muting users, and hiding offensive language.
From your profile page, click on the menu button located at the top - right corner, and then select Privacy. The following are various settings that you should be aware of, all of which are accessible from that particular screen.
Private versus Public Account
A public account implies that anyone, whether they are on Threads or not, can view and interact with your content. In contrast, a private account restricts such access and interaction to only those followers you have approved.
To toggle your Threads account between the two states, tap on Private profile and then click OK.
It is quite straightforward to determine whether your account is private or public. Simply look at the top of your profile page. A globe icon indicates that it is public, while a lock icon means it is private.
Post & Comment Engagement Settings
When you create a new thread or respond to an existing one, there are three engagement options at your disposal. These options determine who has the permission to reply to your thread.
If your account is configured as public, your posts are open to replies from anyone. Conversely, if your account is private, only your followers are eligible to reply.
Altering this setting is a simple process. While creating a new thread or preparing a reply, tap on the "Anyone can reply" option at the bottom. From there, you can select among three choices: "Anyone", "Profiles you follow", and "Mentioned only". For instance, if you select the "Mentioned only" option and then @ mention another user, only that specific account will be able to reply.
The situation is slightly different when your account is set to private. Instead of allowing anyone to reply (which is the case for public accounts), only your followers can reply by default. However, if you choose either "Profiles you follow" or "Mentioned only", the reply rules will function in the same way as they do for a public account.
Other Privacy Settings
Here are several other settings you should be aware of:
Mentions: Decide who is permitted to mention you in their threads, replies, and bios. The options include allowing mentions from anyone, only from profiles you follow, or from no one at all.
Muted: This section shows a list of all the users you have muted. To mute a new user, go to their profile, select the three - dot menu, and then choose the Mute option.
Hidden Words: You can conceal replies that contain offensive words, as well as custom words, phrases, and emojis that you do not wish to view.
There are also additional related options available. For example, you can manage blocked users and hide likes. It's important to note that these settings are applicable to both Threads and Instagram. Thus, when you attempt to access these options within the Threads app, you will be redirected to Instagram in order to manage them.
