What is the Almost Forgot This Is the Point Trend
This trend centers around showcasing simple, more reflective pleasures — a contrast to the hustle and bustle of today’s fast-paced world.
Most videos are paired with the Almost Forgot This Is the Whole Point song, “Take My Hand” by Matt Berry, which helps set the calming, retrospective tone of the trend.
Typically, these videos range from 5–15 seconds, designed to spotlight brief, meaningful clips.
Beyond traditional video footage, many creators use image carousels or turn still photos into videos by adding music.
While there’s no single "right" approach, here are popular formats:
POV-style videos of peaceful moments
Montages from trips or days off
Subtle product features showing work/life flow
Life updates centered on real connections or quiet wins
No matter your approach, joining the "Almost Forgot This Is the Point" trend effectively boosts short-term engagement while attracting long-term viewers.
Tips Before You Create Your Video — Trending Audio
Adding trending audio or songs to your video is one of the simplest ways to expand your content's reach.
In fact, Reels that use trending audio get 42% more engagement on average than those with original or less popular sounds.
Thankfully, finding and using these tracks is usually as easy as searching by name or browsing the Inspiration tab in the new Instagram Edits app.
That said, not all audio is accessible across every platform. Depending on your region or editing tool, songs like Almost Forgot This Is the Whole Point may only be available in a shortened version—or worse, not at all.
To bypass this, using an online video editor allows you to craft content for any platform with audio and assets from anywhere online, ensuring your video never lacks the key elements that drive trends.
For instance, when editing a trending video in the Kapwing editor, you can add songs like Take My Hand by simply pasting a YouTube link.
To import media via a link while editing:
Open the Media tab in the left-hand sidebar.
Click the Upload Media button to start.
Then, paste your link into the URL box to begin importing.
Files added this way will automatically appear in the Media tab, ready to drag into your timeline and use in your video project.
How to Make a Video (Step-by-Step)
For this trend, you’ll want to start with a cinematic video or multiple clips of something simple yet meaningful and fulfilling.
For my example, I’ll be using scenes from an evening bike ride. This, paired with the trending Almost Forgot This Is Whole Point song, will create a peaceful and retrospective video edit that fits the trend perfectly.
To start, I uploaded my content to the editor. Once uploaded, my media was automatically imported into the Media tab for access.
Since some of these clips are in landscape and others in portrait, we’ll want to resize them so they all share the same aspect ratio. For platforms like TikTok and Instagram, 9:16 portrait is an ideal aspect ratio.
To resize a video, start by adding it to your project. To do so, select it from the Media tab.
Once added to your project, select the background to access the Resize Project tool on the right-hand side.
Then, select an aspect ratio from the Size dropdown. Again, for mobile optimization, select the 9:16 aspect ratio.
To confirm your changes, select the Resize Project button at the bottom of the menu.
Finally, it may be worth cropping your video to ensure important details are in frame. Double-click on the video, then slide the frame to adjust the crop.
As you add new videos to your project, you may need to resize them if they don’t match the project’s aspect ratio. Refer to this guide at any point to resize any content within your project.
1.Assembling in Timeline
The first step to create your "Almost Forgot This Is the Point" trend video is arranging clips in the project timeline.
Adding a video file (as shown above) automatically inserts it into the timeline. To organize your video or audio clips, just click and drag them into place.
While your video can be longer, which may work well for showcasing a destination or subtly marketing an experience, I’m aiming for around 15 seconds to keep it short and aligned with the cadence of the trending audio.
On both desktop and mobile, a handy time indicator shows the current length of your project. This helps ensure your video stays within platform limits and follows general trend expectations.
2. Adding Text
Since this trend relies on simple video clips with short caption overlays, every visual element counts. Customizing your text is an effective way to ensure your video matches your page's aesthetic. Here’s how to get started:
On mobile and desktop:
Open the Text tab.
On mobile: Found in the bottom toolbar.
On desktop: Located in the left-hand sidebar.
Either select a preset style or click Add Text for default text.
Customize fonts, colors, outlines, and other elements to fit your vision.
After adding text to your video, tap or click on it to edit. Options include switching styles, changing colors, and adjusting advanced details like animations and outlines.
On desktop, text tools are on the right-hand side. On mobile, they’re found in the menu beneath the timeline.
