FAQS
What is Tunity?
Tunity allows you to scan a muted Live TV and get the audio streamed directly to your phone.
What do I do?
Simply scan any Live TV for one second and the app will identify the channel and stream the synchronized audio.
Why does it only support live feeds?
We only support live feeds because the most common watched content in public places (where audio is not present) is news, sports, and live events. For Android users, be sure to toggle on location services/GPS and click “agree” if you get a location permissions pop-up.
Do I need an internet connection to use it?
Yes. Tunity will work on your device only if it is connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network (3G, 4G LTE, etc.). Since we only stream audio, the service will consume only a small amount of data.
Why does Tunity need my location?
We need your location to better detect the channel you want to hear, estimate delay and help sync the audio to the video. TV channels are slightly different everywhere you go, so this helps us figure out the exact channel you want to hear.
Can I manually adjust the audio stream timing?
Yes. If the audio is not perfectly in sync with the TV, you can use the buttons labeled “Fine Tune Audio Sync” at the bottom of the player screen to adjust the stream delay/latency.
How much data does Tunity consume?
Since we only stream audio, the service will consume only a small amount of data. We stream audio at ~20Kbps (for example, a 1GB monthly data subscription will last for almost 8 days of straight listening).
Is the TV aligned to the frame?
Make sure the entire TV is inside the frame and centered.
Does the gray box say “Align TV To Frame”?
The box will turn blue and say “Ready” when the TV is centered.
Is the phone steady?
Please hold the phone in the same position until it is finished scanning.
Are you scanning a supported channel?
Tap “Channels“ in the menu for an up-to-date list.
Is there a commercial break?
If there is a commercial break, try to scan again when broadcasting resumes. *Check you have a strong cellular signal.
What is QuickTune?
QuickTune is a new feature that lets you listen to a channel you’ve already scanned at your location, without the need to rescan. Once you scan a channel with Tunity, it gets added to a list of channels you’ve scanned at that location. Click on the “QuickTune” button to open up the list, and then click on a channel in the list to begin listening to it. Note that if you move to a different location, these channels will no longer appear in your QuickTune list.

Tunity Super Bowl Coverage Kicks to New OOH Heights
Measure UpBy: Lynn LeaheyFebruary 6, 2019
One of the best places to view the Super Bowl game is in a bar, but until recently, this large OOH audience could not be adequately measured. One company, Tunity, has been measuring out of home for a couple of years and released their Super Bowl data results.
Super Bowl 2019
Paul Lindstrom, Head of Research and Analytics, Tunity, noted that Super Bowl viewing both this year and last “had its greatest usage in bars and restaurants, as one would expect.” And while they do not have commercial log information at this time, they found that program versus commercials performed similarly. The reason is logical in many ways, according to Lindstrom. “In a curated environment you can’t change channels in the same way that you do at home. This means that the commercials are more likely to be on the screen and the screen continuing to remain on the show in question. Also, OOH is fundamentally all live therefore there is no dealing with DVR playback, etc. The differences in audience minute to minute are going to be with audience migration to or away from the set/location.”
2018 vs 2019 Super Bowl OOH
Lindstrom reported that last year, Tunity saw an average 21,026,860 OOH viewers to the NBC telecast of the Super Bowl. This year, the average was 23,672,607 OOH viewers to the CBS telecast – an increase of +12.5%.
He pointed out that “this is not the pattern that has been indicated by Nielsen for in-home estimates. I suspect that there is a difference in the in-home versus OOH environments, where in a situation like the Super Bowl, people plan to be there and are committed to a certain length of time. It is less subject to the vagaries of people deciding to turn off a game when they are home on their own.”
The Super Bowl is by far the largest OOH event measured with year to year growth. Lindstrom has no doubt that the game was the highest measured audience ever since Tunity began reporting.
