Network Signal Guru (NSG) is a versatile tool based on the Android operating system, designed for troubleshooting voice and data service quality, RF optimization, and engineering field tasks. It accommodates all wireless network technologies globally and encompasses various mobile layers along with the data stack in real-time. NSG offers a wide range of testing capabilities for voice and data services to evaluate and showcase the actual end-user experience regarding Quality of Service (QoS) within mobile networks.

Supported Technologies

Extensive Network Coverage

NSG supports all wireless network technologies globally. It encompasses a wide range of technologies including GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, CDMA2000, EVDO, LTE, and the latest 5G NR. This comprehensive support ensures that it can be used across different regions and network setups.

Protocol Layer Capabilities

The app integrates full recording and decoding of protocol layers for the supported technologies. It covers 3GPP, Layer2, Layer3, and SIP. Additionally, it offers direct decoding of Layer 3 signaling and data protocol packets on cell phones, providing in - depth insights into network operations.

Map and Device Compatibility

NSG Map Advantages

NSG Map provides significant benefits by combining outdoor and indoor measurements. This feature simplifies operations in complex environments such as subways, malls, or airports, reducing the complexity of network testing in these locations.

Device Compatibility

NSG is compatible with a wide variety of devices. It supports chipsets from Qualcomm, MediaTek Dimensity, Samsung Exynos, and Huawei Kirin. However, different devices have specific requirements:

#For Qualcomm and MediaTek devices, root access is generally needed.

#A custom ROM is preferred for Huawei Kirin devices.

#For Samsung Exynos variants, a token from Samsung is required. Pixel 6 can also be used for Exynos testing, but root access is necessary.

App's Mission

The NSG team aims to reduce the cost of network maintenance, optimization, and engineering processes. Given that many existing test tools in the market are extremely expensive, some even costing more than a base station, the NSG team developed this app to offer an affordable alternative. By using and promoting NSG, more users and carriers can benefit from cost - effective network testing and optimization.

Band Locking Feature

The Band Locking feature in NSG allows users to configure their phones to search for services only on specified bands. This is useful for identifying specific coverage in certain locations or conducting targeted tests. Moreover, if a particular band is congested, users can force their phones to switch to a different band, improving network performance and the overall user experience. In summary, Network Signal Guru is a new and powerful application that offers a wealth of information about cellular networks, making it an essential tool for network - related tasks.

Comments

There is no other like it! This app communicates directly with the diagnostic interface of your phones modem to give you the highest level of detail imaginable without the requiring more advanced tools. Typically one can only gleam the information this app offers through professional tools such as QXDM. Best of all, many features are free if you're just looking to learn. I used this application to force my phone into NSA/SA and it seems to have fixed it permanently. Big thanks to the dev!

actaully locks bands, great feature when you really dont want to miss a call deep in a building - locked to band 12! UPDATE - Just seen the price for the unlocked version, WHOA, thats expensive. Greedy Dev. 2 stars. Also its made in china and requires internet connection, so there is potential for state-sponsered spying. (1 star now)

As an enthusiast of mobile network testing, this app is absolutely invaluable for seeing all sorts of data about your current connection. Unfortunately it requires root, but this is understandable for the wealth of data you can collect.

Nice app. Force control works well. Would be great if you could choose to display only the pages that you need though. For example, I think most users only need to use one or two of the display pages, but not all 15 of them. And sometimes the app opens on another page and you have to scroll across 10 times to see the page that you need. Otherwise I love the app it's great!

First of all, the app works great. However, the cost just to stop the pages from scrolling and the ad to go away is completely well out of the price range for most of us enthusiasts! I understand that you're targeting this to more professionals but there are a lot of enthusiasts like us who use it not for the professional features but for simple band locking and cell identifying. I'm someone who owns several phones to identify and map cells as a hobby, not profit, so $50/month is way too much. Please, consider a much cheaper version for us so that we can continue doing what we do!

The best network monitoring app. I used NetMonster but often had incorrect CA information with a Sony XZP G8141. NSG allows me to lock LTE bands and for example I found an incorrect configuration of a bts near my house (it can do B3+B1 or only B20 but XZP can do B3+B1+B20). Also, I found that my other operator in the UE capability of XZP doesn't have 256-QAM. Highly recommended app!

This is a really great app for network testing and surveying. The price does reflect the fact it replaces dedicated test equipment, and you do need a rooted phone with a supported modem - it's not so much a general purpose app as it is a specific app for network testers. If this is the app you need, you'll find it very helpful. The customer service is also excellent, the developers are happy to assist with any issues.

The best app to get all kind of data about mobile network you're connected! It allows you to see full info about BTS, signaling, MIMO support, TX power of the device, BLER of every band and lot of other things. The best feature for me it's that you log all data and it's also possibile to do band lock by using forcings function, it's the only app that can do it! The developer is active and very gentle, five full star at 360 degrees.

This app stands out in the Play Store for its band lock feature. It works great for me. Big thanks to the developer! The latest Magisk update had some problems with band locking, but the newest update resolved those issues. I'm really happy with it! 😊

This app is amazing for exploring signals and radio. It really stands out as one of the best out there. Stability remains crucial, especially with future updates. Keeping existing features intact is essential. Locking in desired frequencies and bands makes it even better. Full monitoring of signals and a complete overview of everything happening add so much value. Huge thanks to the developer for their commitment to delivering such a quality experience!

Great app for locking specific bands. One issue comes up when locking the phone on a specific LTE band. The pages within the app switch really fast. It would be nice to pause them so you can move to another page at your own pace. By the way, this issue seems to occur when both SIM cards are active at the same time.

I found an amazing network monitoring app. I tried NetMonster but often got wrong CA information on my Sony XZP G8141. Then I discovered NSG, and it lets me lock LTE bands, which is super helpful. I even spotted a misconfiguration of a nearby BTS; it supports B3+B1 or just B20, while my XZP can handle B3+B1+B20. I also noticed that another operator using the XZP doesn't have 256-QAM. This app comes highly recommended!

This app takes audacity to a whole new level. It claims to work only on Snapdragon phones. I try it out, thinking it’ll finally deliver. Instead, all it does is flood me with ads. Total disappointment. This app isn’t free at all. It should be labeled as a paid app because it offers nothing without charging.

Great news for AT&T users wanting flexibility beyond 700a or 700b. Speeds jumped from 800kb/s to a solid 8 megabytes/s with the 1900 band. However, currently facing issues on Android 12. The device struggles and gets stuck at "Requesting Online Configuration..." Dropping down to two stars until this gets sorted.

NSG has some strict requirements before it can be used. You must have a Qualcomm chipset device. That’s not all. The phone needs to be rooted and have super user access unlocked. Without these, NSG won’t function. Good news came with version 3.8.0. Now, NSG also supports the Hisilicon chipset, but only for 5G devices. These models don’t require root access, but they do need a specific firmware version to work. Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 isn’t quite the fit for this tool.

Update the app. It struggles with the latest Magisk versions. It consistently shows a driver error when forcing control. A stable update is necessary.

Used an app to make my TMobile phone ignore band 25. That band had issues because of interference from a nearby Sprint tower. My phone kept dropping LTE signals. Set it to LTE only, but then missed all my text messages. The app showed tons of graphs. Some graphs were complicated and confusing for me.
