A new age has arrived in identity verification. You ask us the most often

Are eObčanka and eDoklady the same?

No, they are two different services. eDoklady is a mobile application that serves to identify oneself during a physical check. eObčanka is part of the ID card and is used to log in to online services.

What documents will be in the application?

From January 20, 2024, the ID card has been available in eDoklady. We plan to add more documents in the future.

Where can I use eDoklady?

From January 20, 2024, it was possible to use eDoklady in personal meetings with central administrative authorities, which are mainly ministries. From July 1, 2024, municipal authorities with extended powers, regional authorities, the Police of the Czech Republic, Customs Administration, cadastral offices, trade licensing offices, Financial Administration, CSSA, Labor Offices and other state authorities have also joined. The acceptance of eDoklady will gradually be extended to other locations according to this schedule.

Can I use eDoklady abroad?

Currently, eDoklady can only be used in the Czech Republic. When traveling abroad, even within the European Union, you still need to have a physical ID card or passport with you.

From January 1, 2025, you will be able to use eDoklady at Czech embassies abroad.

Can I use the eDoklady application to identify myself to the Czech Police in the field?

From April 1, 2024, you can use the eDoklady mobile application to personally identify yourself to the Czech Police in the field. From July 1 of this year, also at workplaces and offices of the Czech Police. More information can be found on the website of the Czech Police.

From January 1, 2024, drivers do not have to carry a driver's license and technical license when traveling in the Czech Republic, but both must be valid. However, they are required to prove their identity during a roadside check, for example by using an ID card in the physical form of the document or in its digital form in the eDoklady mobile application.

You can find more detailed information on the website of the Ministry of Transport.

Will I be able to use eDoklady in polling stations?

This option will not be available in 2024. You will be able to use eDoklady in precinct polling stations from January 1, 2025.

Is my physical ID card expiring? Do I have to extend it if I have eDoklady?

Yes. The ID card in eDoklady is actually an electronic copy of your physical document. If your ID card expires, the document will automatically disappear from eDoklady. 90 days before the expiration date of your physical ID card, the application will start displaying a notification in how many days it will expire.

Can I continue to identify myself with a plastic ID card?

Yes, your current ID card is still valid and you can use it to prove your identity as before.

Can eDoklady be used offline?

Yes, when proving your identity to the verifier with the mobile application, only Bluetooth technology is used to connect your and the verifier's mobile phones. Internet access is not required at that time.

An internet connection is required for registration, updating data, and proving your identity to the verifier at the counter.

Are there situations when I will still have to present a physical ID card?

If something is physically done to the ID card (e.g. cutting a corner during marriage or changing permanent residence), you cannot prove your identity with an eDoklady, you must present a physical ID card. In the ID card agenda, it will no longer be possible to prove your identity with an eDoklady when applying for a first ID card, when activating the chip in the ID card, and when applying for an ID card after canceling permanent residence.

Can foreigners living in the Czech Republic also use eDoklady?

The application is available only to citizens of the Czech Republic with a valid Czech identity card.

At the post office and during the road check, everything went smoothly.

It doesn't work. When I try to register, I end up in the Fio Bank app and that's all that happens.

It works smoothly and meets expectations. I would like to see more documents included as well as the option to save my own cards there.

It worked great for two days. Now the documents failed to update, and they expired on January 25. It’s good it doesn’t really matter; otherwise, it would be quite a hassle. It feels pretty disappointing.

Attention, registration needs a device with Chrome browser installed! Without it, registration won’t work. For developers: Every mobile has WebView for these purposes; avoid calling Chrome directly.

Many people mention issues with registration failing without any clear reason. I use a fork called Cromite, which focuses on privacy and does things like URL stripping. This causes problems during registration. The solution is simple: download the official mainstream browser, set it as your default for a bit, clean up data and cache in both the eDoklady app and the browser, then close their processes. After doing this, everything works fine. Just follow the official instructions. I tested this on the S21+ 5G with My Air from Air Bank and Google Chrome, and it worked perfectly.

Installation and login were smooth, clear instructions throughout. No hiccups at all. I'm pleasantly surprised!

The app has a great design and is easy to use. I already set up authentication with the eGovernment Mobile Key during COVID, so logging in was almost instant for me. Fortunately, the server issues have calmed down now.
