This application named “ACom” displays up-to-date traffic data on a visual map. Upon launching the app, the map is generated automatically. Green lines represent smooth traffic flow, while red lines denote congested areas. Please note that an internet connection is necessary to access current information.
The application does not require access to location data at any time. However, if you would like to be tracked, you must activate GPS or WiFi-based location services in your Android device settings. Tapping the “Track” button will start the tracking process. After initiating tracking, you can select “Bird” to enter the “Birdview”-Mode. (In “Birdview” mode with GPS, the map adjusts to display your driving direction. In “Birdview” mode with WiFi positioning, the map remains centered on your current location). You can stop tracking by pressing the “HideMe” button.
You can choose between WiFi-based location (low power usage) or GPS-based location (higher power consumption) via your Android settings. ACom supports both options. However, we advise against using GPS without an external power supply because of the high energy demand.
You can set your area of interest (ROI) by selecting the “Define” option in the menu. A ROI can encompass a specific region between two places or just a single location (like a city). An internet connection is needed to establish ROIs.
You can save the currently displayed map by choosing the “Save” option from the menu. The saved file will have an automatically generated title, which you can change by performing a “long-click” on it.
To retrieve a saved map, simply click on the “Load” option in the menu and choose the title of the map you want to access.
Smartphones may automatically enter sleep mode after a period of inactivity. To prevent this, you can turn off sleep mode by selecting “Sleep-Mode off” in the options menu.
If you have opened a saved map, you can select “Navi to Target” to launch the Google Maps navigation app. The destination will be automatically based on the target (city) from your previously defined map.
You can access the “navigation drawer” from the top left corner. The “Master Map” serves as the primary map that contains all relevant information. Additionally, you may download third-party add-ons or collections of add-ons that leverage this information and provide further insights.
You are encouraged to create and maintain your own add-on. Detailed instructions and examples for developing add-ons are available in the designated repository.
