Moving to the Mapway app for Android users

Introducing our multi-city Mapway app

For 20 years, Mapway has been delivering a range of user-friendly apps to help our users navigate cities worldwide – we’ve seen more than 60 million lifetime downloads.  For the first time we are delivering this through one multi-city app called Mapway.  At launch Mapway will feature 21 of the cities we cover from Boston to Barcelona to Beijing and we plan to add more in the future.

The individual city apps (excluding Tube Map, Bus Times London and the New York City apps*) will gradually be retired and users will need to use the Mapway app instead. Rest assured that you will lose none of the current features of your city app, indeed we believe you will get a better user experience and perhaps even more features1, as well as access to many more cities.

You will receive reminders to move to Mapway up to the point when your current city app is unsupported, but we really hope you move to Mapway soon and enjoy a great experience. If you do experience any problems, please email support@mapway.com.

This article has been written to better explain why we are doing this, the features you will have access to and what you need to do to migrate to Mapway.

*Maps for the London Underground and New York subway will be introduced into the Mapway app, but these are separate to the individual Tube and NYC apps listed above, which have separate subscriptions and purchases.

If you are a Lifetime Subscriber

We want you to continue to enjoy the benefits of your lifetime subscription at little or no cost when migrating to our new app.  To ensure this happens please follow these steps:

Ensure you do not delete the existing city specific app that you are subscribed to until you have completed step 4.

Download and open the Mapway app

The app will take you through a quick on-boarding process which will automatically choose your closest city, but you can choose this manually at any time by selecting the settings button and pressing the “Change city >” button below your current city name.

Users will, unfortunately, incur a very small one-off charge that is beyond our control. We’ve set the price to the minimum amount allowed by Google – and this is mostly just tax.

You are now migrated and can remove your existing city app from your device.

If you are a Monthly or Annual Subscriber

You will need to cancel your city app subscription before the end of the current subscription period.

You may wish to delay migrating until your existing subscription has ended to complete your subscription period with your existing app, but when ready to do so please follow these steps:

Ensure you do not delete the existing city specific app that you are subscribed to until you have completed step 4.

Download and open the Mapway app.

The app will take you through the quick on-boarding process which will automatically choose your closest city, but you can choose this manually at any time by selecting the settings button and pressing the “Change city >” button below your current city name.

You will be offered a Mapway subscription for the same duration as you already have at a discounted rate which matches your existing subscription rate.

You are now migrated and can remove your existing city app from your device.

If you are an advertising supported user

Mapway remains free to use when supported by adverts, but these can be removed, and some extra features added1 with a subscription.  To migrate please follow the steps below:

Download and open the Mapway app.

The app will take you through the quick on-boarding process which will automatically choose your closest city, but you can choose this manually at any time by selecting the settings button and pressing the “Change city >” button below your current city name.

You are now migrated and can remove your existing city app from your device.
