HOW IT WAS

The beginning of Vakinha

The idea for Vakinha was born in 2006 , at the wedding of Luiz Felipe Gheller, one of the founders. Felipe, who married the sister of Fabrício Milesi, another founder, was about to move out of Brazil and didn’t want gifts. Instead, he and Fabrício looked for ways to transform these traditional gifts into financial contributions. At the time, the alternatives were limited and complicated. The most viable solution was wedding registry cash, offered by travel agencies, but the process was bureaucratic and unsatisfactory. In the end, they decided to use a ballot box at the wedding so that guests could deposit money.

Even before their wedding, Felipe and Fabrício realized that there was an unmet market need: an easier and more practical way to turn gifts into cash. So they started discussing ideas to solve this problem.

After much reflection and some unusual ideas, the initial concept began to transform into a promising business model . Fabrício invited Diego Izquierdo, a mutual friend, to help develop the idea. “The idea was shelved for two years until the company where Diego and I worked closed. We then decided to take the project forward. We came up with the concept of a crowdfunding campaign and managed to find investors to finance the development of the pilot project,” recalls Fabrício.
