General Info & FAQ

How is Lock Firmware Updated?

Firmware updates are released periodically to help improve performance and connection speed.

💡 Firmware updates begin automatically when the lock owner connects to their lock over Bluetooth.

You can still operate your lock in the app while you update.

Firmware updates can take up to a few minutes.

Be sure to keep your phone near your lock, with the Yale Access app open throughout the whole update.

❗ In order for the firmware to update, you must be within Bluetooth range of the device and have Bluetooth enabled on your phone.

How do I update my lock firmware?

The Yale Access app will notify you when a new firmware update is available. This will happen each time you open the Yale Access app and are within Bluetooth distance of your Yale Smart Lock. You will continue to receive in-app notifications until the lock firmware is updated.

To update:

In the Yale Access app, tap Update when you receive the firmware notification.

How do I know if my firmware update is complete?

You can check the firmware version in the app:

In the Yale Access app, tap the gear icon (⚙).

Select your lock.

Tap Device Information.

You can now view your firmware version under the serial number of your lock.

What if the firmware update fails?

If the firmware update fails while you are in the middle of updating, try the following:

Restart your phone

Power cycle your lock:

Remove a battery.

Wait 30 seconds.

Reinsert the battery.

Try updating the firmware again.

If the issue persists, contact us.

Can I postpone the firmware update for later?

There is no option to postpone the update, but if you do not stay by your door, the update will not complete at that time. Each time you connect to your lock, it will prompt you to complete the update. Firmware updates are very important. We recommend completing them at your soonest convenience.

Will the update continue if I have the app running in the background while I do other things, like check my email or operate another app?

No. The progress will be saved, but you need to keep your Yale Access App open in order to complete the update.

The app is frustrating. It only tracked logs for eight days, then began skipping days. Now it only works after I restart my phone, but that lasts just a day. The lock drains batteries quickly. Four batteries last only about eight days. The app doesn't alert when batteries run low, missing basic features found in smartwatches. Plus, there's no way to connect the lock to the internet through the app. Overall, it's really disappointing.

Using the system feels clunky. Checking battery percentage for devices is not possible. Creating a code requires entering a last name, which is an extra step. If I want the same entry for two locks, I need to input all the details for each one manually. No check boxes exist to select multiple locks at once, making the process tedious. In the Guest List section, each lock has its own entry even when the details like name, entry code, and access schedule match. This makes the list feel cluttered. Plus, dark mode isn't available, which adds to the frustration.

I installed the app and carefully followed the guides for setting up the module, magnet, and access bridge. At first, I received a message with an access code but it didn’t work. It might have been because my phone auto-filled the code when it came through. I requested another code and this time I entered it manually. It worked perfectly. After installing the module, I had to re-assign all my tags in the access app. Once the module is active, the old tags don’t function anymore. The Alexa integration gives updates on the door status. I used the Conexis L1 with my Android device.

When it works, it's fantastic. The tech support team is helpful with connectivity problems. Losing connection happens too often. Trying to manage an out-of-state property gets frustrating. I can't add new guest codes for access when the system drops off. No changes in the internet and everything else works fine. It’s a real pain.

You have three Yale Assure locks for your vacation rental. Yale seems like a solid brand, right? The locks look tough, but the app experience is terrible. It's unreliable and frustrating. You can't operate any of the locks through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Adding guests through the app isn't possible. The connect bridge never connects either! It feels like a complete waste of time and money!

This app struggles with Android 15 Bluetooth. It connects once after a phone restart, then fails to connect again. WiFi works but doesn’t support the auto-unlock feature which relies solely on Bluetooth. Spent several days with tech support, sharing recordings and logs. They even filed a bug ticket and escalated it to the development team. It's been over a month without any updates. Definitely time to consider other options.

Frustration with the Android phone. After swapping batteries, the Yale app won’t connect to the door sense via Bluetooth. It’s a huge letdown when the iPhone app runs perfectly. Where's the quality control for the Android users? Yale tech support needs to step up and fix this!
