Jeep recalls thousands of popular model over wiring issue

Jeep is recalling one of its most popular models due to wiring issues relating to its safety systems.

Nearly 80,000 Jeep Wranglers are affected in the recall because of possible defect in the tire pressure monitoring system, which poses a crash risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Affected vehicles are 2024 and 2025 models and were produced between April 2023 and December 2024.

The problem is not related to a part defect, according to documents filed with the agency this month.

During the assembly process, vehicles may have had their remote start antenna pinched under the seat belt retractor bracket, affecting the pressure monitoring system’s functioning.

The remedy is to see if the remote start antenna cable is pinched by the bracket and offer free replacement in case of any damage.

Chrysler, who manufactured the vehicles, would reach out to the owners affected by the recall. They can also contact Chrysler’s customer service at (800) 853-1403 or the NHTSA’s safety hotline at (888) 327-4236 to determine if they are affected by the recall.

Chrysler recently recalled 121,300 Jeep Grand Cherokees due to second-row headrests that do not lock in place, as well as 250,000 minivans over airbag issues.

Jeep Needs A Huge Win: New Cherokee Unveiled

(TestMiles) – Jeep needs a huge win: the just-announced new Cherokee must deliver or risk deepening declines across its lineup in sales and credibility.

The new Cherokee arrives at a critical moment for Jeep as sales falter and recall headlines mount. This launch is not just important; it is essential.

Why does this car matter right now?

At a time when Jeep’s momentum feels unsteady, dampened by slipping sales and mounting quality concerns, the new Cherokee arrives like a plea dressed as a press release. The Wagoneer S has generated headlines, but not sales; Grand Cherokee volumes remain soft; and the mid-size segment, where Jeep once ruled, now feels more like “could-be.” Unveiled just yesterday, the new Cherokee is less a comfortable successor and more of a public high-pressure audition.

The Cherokee name alone carries emotional weight. After nearly fifty years of being a reliable mainstay, it was discontinued in 2023. That decision was grounded in plummeting sales from almost 239,000 units in 2018 down to just 24,600 in 2023, an 88 percent collapse, and rendered Jeep absent from a critical segment just as rivals marched ahead.

Jeep®

How does it compare to rivals?

The new Cherokee steps into a brutally competitive mid-size SUV market. Honda, Toyota, Ford, and Hyundai offer reliability, fuel efficiency, and resale value that give them a head start. Jeep’s new model is priced from approximately $32,000 to just under $45,000. Motive options include a turbo four-cylinder and a mild-hybrid powertrain, solid, but not revolutionary.

There is no safety data yet. Since the vehicle was unveiled only yesterday, official crash-test ratings from NHTSA and IIHS won’t arrive for several months. That delay lets competitors talk safety while Jeep must hope reputation and styling hold interest long enough for the numbers to catch up.

Sales decline underscores the pressure.

Jeep’s challenges are stark when spelled out by year:

• 2018: approx 972,200 units sold in the U.S.

• 2019: …923,000 units

• 2020: …795,000 units

• 2021: …779,000 units

• 2022: …684,600 units

• 2023: …642,900 units

That’s a 44 percent drop from 2018 to 2023.

The model-by-model pain is deeper. Cherokee plummeted 88 percent; Renegade fell dramatically; Compass and Wrangler dropped by 44 percent and 14 percent, respectively; Grand Cherokee eked out modest growth in 2023, but still faces mounting quality and recall distractions.

Inventory tells the same story: 2023 piled up far more than the healthy 45–65-day supply. In early 2025, Jeep dealers reported over 195 days of inventory, evidence that actual demand is notably weaker than showroom ambition.

Recall troubles make the stakes even higher.

Jeep’s credibility has taken repeated hits from widespread recalls:

• A recall affecting over 194,000 plug-in-hybrid SUVs, including Wrangler 4xe (2020–2024) and Grand Cherokee 4xe (2022–2024), due to fire risk. Owners were urged to park outside and stop charging until repairs were available.

• Late July 2025: Stellantis recalled 121,398 Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L SUVs (2023–2024) for rear-seat headrests that may not lock upright, increasing injury risk. Free inspections begin in September.

• Earlier in 2024: 338,238 Jeeps (Grand Cherokee models from 2021–2023) were recalled due to upper control-arm ball joint issues that could lead to loss of vehicle control.

That is not background noise, it’s a chorus, Jeep cannot afford as it asks customers to repurchase trust.

Who is this for, and who should skip it?

This Cherokee is a beacon for ABC buyers, Anyone But Compass. Nostalgic long-time Jeep fans who remember the XJ fondly but now want modern tech, mild-hybrid efficiency, and refreshed styling might give it a second look. It’s priced closer to the mainstream, perhaps more approachable than the beleaguered Wagoneer S can claim.

But if you drive on reliability data, top-tier safety scores, or fuel economy, you might hold off. The RAV4, CR-V, and Escape will happily welcome your confidence now, Jeep must earn it on its upcoming performance, not its past aura.

Jeep®

What is the long-term significance?

The stakes could not be clearer. This launch must land not just as a return of a nameplate, but as a credible pivot back to relevance. Jeep’s mid-size SUV absence has cost it not just sales, but strategic positioning.

If the new Cherokee resonates, it could be the gentle first step of a broader recovery from production delays, fading consumer trust, and the rise of more dependable rivals. If it falters, it could cement the idea that Jeep is slipping not just commercially, but culturally, with its once-reliable reputation fraying under industry scrutiny.

This is not an obvious home run. Styling is evolutionary; powertrains are competent but not class-leading; safety ratings are pending. Yet the vehicle represents a singular opportunity: to rebuild confidence where Jeep most needs it. That is why Jeep needs this launch to be a huge win to regain its foothold in the market.

The app's layout needs a complete makeover. Users should easily spot information like fuel level, battery percentage, and range. Often, I find the levels showing zero when I open it. Refreshing this data feels like a hassle. The buttons for locking the car and starting it are too small. Sending commands takes longer than it should, and notifications about those commands are unreliable. Overall, the user interface needs improvement, and the backend server and vehicle software could use some attention too.

I set up a charge schedule and a climate schedule for my Jeep, but it doesn't function. I attempted to start my Jeep remotely using the app, and it failed. Tracking the Jeep doesn't refresh properly either. The only feature that somewhat works is checking the charge level, and even that is inconsistent. After reaching out for help, I emailed the app moderator as they requested. They needed pictures, the VIN, the version of the app I'm using, my phone model, and the operating system version. All this effort feels overwhelming for an app that's supposed to simplify things. I dropped my rating to one star.

I love my Jeep! The latest update is fantastic. The app works perfectly now. Everything is right there. Vehicle health report, gas level, location. All of it. I really enjoy the send n go feature. My mileage updates automatically! Great job, Jeep!

My car got disconnected from my account. It took three customer service reps and 40 minutes to sort it out, but now none of the premium features show up. Finding my car in a convention parking lot took nearly two hours because I relied on this app. A simple pin drop would have done the trick. The subscription isn’t worth it, and customer service seems clueless.

The app looks good, no doubt about it. It has a major flaw with not updating the car's status regularly. I had my 4xe plugged in for four hours, but the app didn’t show the charge level at all, completely overlooking that the car was charging. Another problem is the remote functions. They take way too long to work, if they even do. Sometimes it takes up to two minutes just to lock, unlock, or start the car. Even deleting and re-downloading the app doesn’t solve these issues.

The new app causes constant headaches. Remote start fails almost every time. Issues pop up for no reason. Then suddenly, everything's fine briefly, and it works. I've shared all the details with FCA. The IT team is supposedly looking into it. Now, I get a green checkmark on my requests, but it doesn't mean anything. The Jeep just won't start from the app. This situation feels unfair. A refund would be nice.

Frustration mounts with the login troubles. It sends you back to the sign-in page repeatedly. If you finally get in, the app seems useless. Finding a dealer for service doesn’t offer much value. Unconnect was miles ahead. Paying for an app packed with issues feels unfair. No real fixes in sight. Using the remote start from your key works just fine. Why pay for something that doesn’t function? It feels like a scam.
