Pure Audiobook Bliss: Where Simplicity Meets Perfect Functionality

After months of chasing complex audiobook players cluttered with unnecessary features, discovering this app felt like a revelation. It delivers exactly what its minimalist promise suggests: a frictionless sanctuary for audiobook enjoyment. What truly won me over was its elegant handling of my messy audiobook collection. Simply pointing it to my main folder transformed chaos into order overnight – each subfolder auto-magically became a properly shelved "book," complete with cover art detection (where present). No tedious tagging, no manual entry. The material design isn't just aesthetically pleasing; it’s profoundly functional. Large, clear buttons for play/pause/skip in the dark or on Android Auto are a blessing during commutes.

The sleep timer has genuinely improved my bedtime routine. Setting it for 30 minutes means drifting off without anxiety about finding my phone later or losing my place – waking to find playback perfectly stopped and my position accurately saved feels like magic every time. Speed adjustment (my preferred 1.2x) is smooth and responsive, avoiding the robotic distortion plaguing other players. Its open-source nature provides invaluable peace of mind; knowing there are no hidden processes or unnecessary data collection allows me to focus entirely on my book. This app embodies the principle that less, when perfectly executed, is vastly more valuable than feature bloat.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Based on Experience:

Does it remember my position if I switch books?

Absolutely. The app meticulously tracks your last listening position for every single bookin your library individually. Pick up exactly where you left off, regardless of which other books you've sampled.

What folder structure should I use?

Simply create a main folder (e.g., "Audiobooks"). Within this, create subfolders for each individualaudiobook. Place all audio files (MP3, M4B, etc.) for one book directly within its designated subfolder. The app handles the rest.

Can I bookmark specific points within a book?

Yes! While playing, tap the bookmark icon to save your current position. Access all your bookmarks conveniently from the player screen to jump back to crucial moments, quotes, or chapters.

Does it support DRM-protected audiobooks (like Audible)?

No. As an open-source player focusing on simplicity, it works with standard, non-DRM protected audio files (MP3, FLAC, M4B without DRM, OGG, etc.). DRM-protected formats require their respective official apps.

Will it remember playback speed settings per book?

While the playback speed setting generally persists, it's currently set globally rather than per book. Adjusting the speed affects playback for all audiobooks.

This app isn’t just a tool; it’s a thoughtfully crafted invitation to immerse yourself in stories without distraction. Its elegant simplicity and unwavering reliability have made it my indispensable companion for every listening journey. Free, open-source, and perfectly formed – an exceptional find for any audiobook lover.

This app is amazing. It feels like a one-person operation or maybe just a couple of people behind it. No issues with playing any audiobook file, no matter the format, single file or divided into chapters. It keeps track of where you left off in different books, so you always know your spot. Little touches make a big difference, like the cover art feature that pulls images from Google. Everything seems carefully designed and user-friendly.

I found the best audiobook player after trying nearly ten different ones! It has some amazing features. The variable speed playback goes from 0.5 to 3.5x, making it super easy to adjust for my listening style. The skip silence feature is a game-changer; I can breeze through parts without dialogue in no time. Plus, there's no ads! Yet, there are a few areas that could use some love. It would be great to display additional file information, like book descriptions in the comments tag of my MP3 files. The auto-correction for VBR headers could use improvement too; sometimes it messes with playback and chapter selection. I do miss having a custom color progress bar. Also, an option to import, export, or sync progress and bookmarks would make everything perfect.

This app is truly a labor of love for me. It has been my go-to for listening to three long audiobooks. I highly recommend downloading Voice right away! It works perfectly. One small tweak would make it even better. An indicator for the "Skip Silence" feature would be fantastic. Right now, there's no clear way to tell if it's on or off unless you can hear a difference or remember your last setting. Thank you, dear developer! You’ve created something wonderful!

Everything was working great until Android 9 came along. Now swiping notifications away doesn’t do anything. I have to go back into the app just to close it. Sometimes the notification still shows up. I wanted a fix soon. Then, an update arrived! It’s all fixed now. So awesome! Thank you!

This app has a wonderful simplicity. It feels reliable and stable. I wish it had two features from other players. A sleep timer that pauses at the end of a chapter would be perfect. Also, a way to navigate chapters without going in order, like a chapter playlist, would be great. I'm not too sure about how bookmarks work yet. That’s probably more about me than the app though!

The interface feels clean and speedy. Listening to this app brings me joy. It keeps my audiobooks separate from my music, which I really appreciate. No reliance on the media server makes it even better! I find happiness in using this app. One idea I would love to see is the option to load individual artwork for each file instead of just the entire book art. Even if it means a little more loading time or a preference setting, I think it would enhance the experience. Thank you for all the hard work!

The app broke after the update. It makes my phone unresponsive and locks the screen constantly. Rebooting doesn't help. I had to uninstall it from safe mode. Edit: The developer actually reads the reviews, which is impressive for a free app. This app used to be really good. I hope the developer can restore the previous features. I miss having the unread books sorted by the time added.

I had a great experience with this audiobook player on my old phone running Android 10. Everything worked perfectly. I upgraded to a new phone with Android 13, and things took a turn. The app showed my audiobook but wouldn't let me play it at all. Frustrating. I decided to clear the storage, hoping for a fresh start. I even deleted the audiobook. When I reached the point of selecting a folder for my books, the app froze completely. No idea what's causing the issue. It was such a reliable and simple player before. I'd love to get it working again.

Some people used to love this app. It had all the features anyone could ask for and worked great. Then came the last update. Now it locks the screen, makes my phone shut down, and in some audiobooks, it even reboots into recovery mode. I have no idea how that happens. The response time was quick, and they offered a solution. Still, I wouldn't tell anyone to get it until the next version comes out. After that, for sure, they should download it.

I thought I couldn't add more books. Turns out I just missed it. The app is fantastic. Since that was my only issue, I'm updating my review to a positive one. You can definitely add more books even if the button isn't super obvious. A big "+" icon at the bottom would help folks like me who need a clearer option.
