The 2025 eSailing World Championship Grand Final is fast approaching

Excitement is building as the spectacular conclusion of the eSailing season approaches, with 12 of the world's best virtual sailors preparing to battle it out for the ultimate title at the 2025 eSailing World Championship Grand Final on the Virtual Regatta Inshore game.

This exceptional event, organized in collaboration with World Sailing and the Polish Sailing Federation, will take place on Sunday, July 20, as the flagship event of the prestigious Gdynia Sailing Days festival.

An emotional season and a finale not to be missed

After an intense season of online qualifiers, the 12 finalists will compete in high-octane live races designed to test their skill, strategy, and composure. The championship will feature a series of eight races using the J70, ILCA, 49er, Nacra 17, Fareast 28r, Star, Offshore Racer, and F50 boats.

At the end of these rounds, the two competitors with the lowest scores will be eliminated. The remaining 10 sailors will then advance to a decisive final race, where the winner will be awarded the title of Virtual Regatta Inshore World Champion.

“Every year, the eSailing World Championship Final pushes the boundaries of our sport. These 12 players represent the world’s elite, and their journey to Gdynia demonstrates the highest level of competition in esports.

Strategy, composure, and excellence are what make eSailing a sport in its own right and a global stage worth following,” said Tom Gauthier, CEO of Virtual Regatta.

“As a proud citizen of Gdynia and Vice President of World Sailing, I am delighted to see the eSailing World Championship come to our city,” added Tomasz Chamera, Vice President of World Sailing.

“This event not only illustrates the dynamic future of sailing through innovation and digital engagement, but it also highlights Gdynia’s growing role as a modern hub for international sailing events.” I am confident that both competitors and the global audience will be impressed by what Gdynia has to offer – both live and virtually.”

Captivating stories and palpable tension

This 2025 final is full of exciting stories that add extra tension to this momentous occasion. Frenchman Asere, the 2023 World Champion, returns with the ambition of reclaiming his title against a formidable fleet.

Among the main contenders for the title are several other finalists from last year's duel, including Sara Granberg (SGR88), Lorenzo Sorrenti (Lorenzo), Kazuki Miyamae (FSC-Kazuki), and Samuel Solano Lopes Junior (Harder), all determined to capitalize on this valuable experience.

Among the veterans, Asere (FRA) stands out with one of the most consistent records in eSailing history. This year, he qualified for his sixth final in eight years, including five consecutive appearances, including one victory. Lorenzo (ITA) also showed remarkable consistency, marking his third consecutive final appearance.

Between rising stars and seasoned competitors

The fleet also features emerging talent and experienced competitors with impressive backgrounds. Kazuki will celebrate his 18th birthday just a week before the event, hoping that a world title will be the ultimate birthday present.

Jose Godi (BRA) brings a wealth of experience to this final, having competed at the 2023 Olympic Esports Week in Singapore, while FC RICH (JPN) is a former finalist at the 2023 World Championship in Trieste. This final will also mark the first edition since 2019 without a UK representative – guaranteeing a new champion after defending champion Arthur Farley (F7 – RS) failed to make the top 12.

In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, Kyrylo Dolhov (NaVi 767) of Ukraine will travel to the live event in Poland from his home in eastern Ukraine, determined to represent his country on the world stage.

Worldwide Broadcast

The entire final will be live streamed on the World Sailing YouTube channel and on the Virtual Regatta YouTube and Twitch channels. The aim is to allow sailing and esports fans around the world to follow the action live.

This game frustrates so much. It freezes on the loading screen constantly. Even with a good connection, the lag is awful. Your boat shoots across the map randomly, making it nearly impossible to time your start correctly. Good luck finishing two races back-to-back without running into problems. The steering controls feel terrible, too. Just a mess overall.
