The VIN Report for Used Cars is a mobile application that caters to individuals in the market for a pre-owned vehicle. It provides a wealth of information to help consumers make informed decisions, making the often challenging process of buying a used car easier and more transparent.
Key Features
VIN Decoding and Verification
The app allows users to scan or input the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of a car. Its built-in VIN Decoder verifies the legitimacy of the VIN for vehicles manufactured from 1981 onwards. Once decoded, it generates a detailed report with up to 200 data points, offering comprehensive insights into the vehicle.
Market Value Assessment
One of the primary features is the ability to assess the market value of a used car. By comparing the vehicle's price with similar models in the local area, users can determine if they are getting a fair deal. This feature is crucial for negotiating prices with dealers or private sellers, ensuring that buyers are paying a reasonable price for the vehicle.
Vehicle History Tracking
The app tracks the listing and price history of the vehicle. Users can view when and where the car has been sold, along with the prices it commanded. This historical data helps in understanding how the car's value has changed over time, providing valuable context for negotiation and decision-making.
Vehicle History Reports
It offers detailed vehicle history reports that include information on previous accidents, service records, and other critical data. Additionally, users can check for open recalls associated with the vehicle, ensuring that they are not purchasing a car with unresolved safety issues. This feature helps in assessing the vehicle's reliability and value.
Stolen Car Check
The stolen car check feature allows users to verify whether a vehicle has been reported stolen. This is an essential tool for avoiding potential legal complications and ensuring that the vehicle is legitimate, providing peace of mind to buyers.
Projected Depreciation
The app estimates the projected depreciation of the vehicle over the next one to three years. By comparing this depreciation with similar vehicles, users can make more informed decisions about their investment, helping them choose a vehicle that is a sound financial choice.
Dealer Scorecard
The Dealer Scorecard feature enables users to assess how a specific dealer compares to others in terms of price, transparency, and responsiveness. This helps users make informed choices about which dealer to engage with when purchasing a used car, ensuring a better buying experience.
A used car VIN report provides access to up to 200 data points, including:
*** Market Value and Charts
Obtain an estimate of the vehicle's market value based on recent sales of similar cars in the local vicinity.
*** Listing and Price History
Review the sale history of the used car, including previous sale locations, dates, prices, and duration on the market.
*** Vehicle History, Open Recalls, Stolen Car Check, and More
Examine how much the car has been driven in comparison to the average vehicle. Instantly access the vehicle history report (free in some cases) from services such as Carfax or Autocheck, check for open recalls, verify if the car has been reported stolen previously, and look up additional important details before making a purchase or sale.
*** Projected Depreciation
Receive an estimate of the potential depreciation of the used car over the next one, two, or three years, and compare it with similar vehicles in the market.
*** Best Time to Buy (and Sell)
Like real estate, the automotive market experiences seasonal trends. Discover the optimal times to buy or sell for the best possible prices.
*** VIN Decoder / VIN Lookup
Using the app, you can conveniently utilize your phone’s camera to scan the VIN barcode on a used car, and our integrated VIN Decoder verifies whether it is a legitimate VIN (from model year 1981 and beyond, when standardization began). It generates an immediate report. The VIN is usually found on the windshield or on the passenger door sill.
*** Dealer Scorecard
If you're considering a used car available for sale, assess how the dealer stacks up against others regarding pricing, transparency, and willingness to respond.

I’ve used this app for years and all my used car purchases, for family and friends looking to buy Vehicles. It is tremendously helpful, informative And allows you to make an intelligent decision on automobile purchases. I must also mention how much improvement this app has each time I return to seek information about a vehicle. Very well put together, easy to navigate and discover the information your looking for as well as many other info that you my not think of but should know, vehicle specs, vehicle theft….etc It’s really an awesome app to have in your corner when purchasing any new or used vehicle. Absolutely 5 star rating, it will definitely Make you seem like an intelligent expert on buying any said vehicle and help you to get a fair prices. Thank you very much
This was super helpful before I purchased my new/used car yesterday! I get they cannot provide the accident/service history for free, however, they provide every single other detail you could want, and even provide a link to a free site that shows if the vehicle has either theft in its history, or if it has been wrecked/salvaged/refurbished & if so when. I literally had THE hardest time finding online an accurate list of ALL the features on the specific year/make/model car I was looking at, but because this info is based off VIN, they provide the most accurate & detailed list I’ve seen anywhere....in addition to a ton of other helpful & relevant information. Thanks, keep up the great work!!
Incredible app. If you ate car shopping, het this and use it. They aggregate so much data, cut out the fluff, present it in an easily consumable way, and provide market insights you will never be able to deduce on your own. Not sure how this is free but ... wow. I left a deposit in a car, got sort of cold feet, then remembered this app. I went through all the data and concluded that my deal was at least fair, possibly good or good plus, and that the car I landed on likely to hold its value throughout my payment terms. So, yeah. I feel better but I also feel like had I found out the car was a clunker, I could have bailed. Fantastic service.
I first encountered this app as a web-based app when researching a car. The web UI was excellent and provided a lot of detail information. A week ago, I was doing some more research, and I said it would be nice to have that browser-based app as a mobile app. Little did I know it was already available. I was blown away with this app, and the UI on the app is so granular. Everything and more one would need when researching a VIN#. What more can you ask for in an app like this?
About a couple days ago the app wasn’t properly registering my account as a pro member, it was pretty frustrating at first as i wasn’t able to look up VIN reports for my customers. As i was about to cancel my membership I decided it would be smart to send a quick email to the customer support. The part that surprised me was how fast they responded in a quick and professional manner. They responded within an hour and had my account back and running the next day, shoutout to Julie, Kara and the developers for everything!
Update: Still shopping for cars and I run into a paywall?? I saw some old developer responses to people’s reviews stating that they determined that 10 free reports was adequate but I’m seeing now that it’s been shortened further to 5. I’m disappointed. I really thought this app was a game changer, but it’s just another cash grab. Deleting. Not only does this app provide you with tons of free info to help you make decisions on used cars, but it provides the links to legitimate and reliable sites that provide the info you’re looking for. I learned quite a bit from this app within the first 5 minutes of using it. THIS is how VIN lookup apps should be made. THIS is how you help people.
