About triple j

triple j is the national youth broadcaster for young Australians. We aim to bring you the latest, greatest music and the stories that matter on the radio (covering over 98% of the nation), online, on your phone, and in your ‘hood for special events.

triple j loves new music from our favourite artists here and all over the world. We love discovering music and bringing it to you- like broadcasting the best live sets for our Live At The Wireless series, inviting artists into the studio to perform covers for Like A Version, and covering breaking music news, pop culture, and youth issues.

We love music made in bedrooms and garages by musicians we’ve never heard of. We love it so much, we launched our triple j Unearthed competition in the mid ‘90s then, in 2011, gave it its own digital radio station. In that time, we’ve discovered iconic talent like Flume, Courtney Barnett, RÜFÜS, Tkay Maidza, Grinspoon, Killing Heidi, Missy Higgins, Stonefield, Japanese Wallpaper, and so many, many more.

In 2014, two became three and Double J joined the family. Aimed at long-time music lovers, Double J delivers a diverse mix of the best new music and classic songs triple j has championed over the past four decades.

...and that’s only scratching the surface of all the things triple j does. Dive deep into triple j’s 40+ year history with this interactive timeline filled with iconic music moments, videos, comedy and milestones.

What are the channel changes?

ABC is upgrading its broadcast technology to improve the viewing experience with higher picture quality. Part of these changes is to upgrade two channels to HD.

The changes are as follows:

Channel 23 ABC Entertains will be converted to HD (in MPEG-4)

Channel 24 ABC News will be converted to HD (in MPEG-4)

When will the changes be rolled out in my area?

The ABC plans to implement a staged rollout of the HD upgrade as follows:

Wednesday 11 June   – Tasmania and South Australia

Tuesday 17 June – Western Australia and Northern Territory

Thursday 19 June  – Queensland

Tuesday 24 June - NSW and ACT

Thursday 26 June - Victoria

Is my TV compatible for HD?

How do I get access to the full range of ABC channels after the HD upgrade?

If your TV cannot view HD channels, then you aren’t seeing free-to-air TV at its best. In order to have the best experience and view the full range of ABC channels you should consider upgrading your TV.

If you are already thinking it might be time to invest in a better screen, buying a new TV is your simplest option. TVs sold today are set up to receive the full range of HD programming and TV multi-channels that are available, free, in your area.

If you would prefer to keep using your old TV, the most cost-effective way to upgrade is to install a digital set top box. These can be obtained from most electronics stores for around $50. They are easy to set up and don’t take up much space.

Please note it will be the householder’s responsibility to meet any costs incurred.

How do I retune (rescan) my TV?

The changes should automatically appear in the channel list of most TVs. If not, then the first thing to do is to retune your TV.

Most TVs have an option to automatically retune channels within the TV menu. In many cases, the channel changes will appear after completing this process. If you are unsure how to retune channels you should refer to your TV manual or contact the manufacturer.

The following are general instructions for retuning and not related to any specific set, model or brand. Menu descriptions and labels may vary depending on your equipment. Retuning should then only take a few minutes.

Press the MENU or HOME button on your remote control to display the device control panel.

Locate the DIGITAL AUTO TUNING or DIGITAL CHANNEL SEARCH option.

Select START or SEARCH.

This app is fantastic! I listen to it every day. Sometimes it freezes, which can be a bit annoying. I hope they fix that soon!
