Tips to Win at Solitaire
Prioritize Uncovering Hidden Cards
Focus on moves that reveal face-down cards in the tableau (the seven columns). Hidden cards are your key to progress, so avoid moving cards between tableau piles unless it exposes a face-down card or sets up a critical move. For example, if you have a choice between moving a 6 of Hearts to a 7 of Spades or clearing a column to reveal a hidden card, choose the latter unless the 6 enables a cascade of moves.
Plan Moves Strategically
Before making a move, think a few steps ahead. Consider how each move affects future options, especially when choosing between similar moves (e.g., moving a black 6 to a red 7 in one column versus another). Always favor the move that uncovers the most hidden cards or clears a column, particularly from larger stacks. For instance, if you have two red 5s and one black 6, move the 5 from the column with more face-down cards.
Create and Manage Empty Columns
Empty tableau columns are powerful because they can hold any card or sequence, helping you reorganize the board. Only fill an empty column with a King (as only Kings can start an empty column) when it supports revealing hidden cards or building a strong sequence.
Build Sequences in the Tableau Thoughtfully
When possible, build tableau sequences in the same suit (e.g., 9 of Spades on 10 of Spades) rather than alternating colors. Same-suit sequences are easier to move later and can prevent locking key cards. However, don’t overbuild piles unnecessarily, as this can trap cards of alternating colors, making them harder to access.
Delay Moving Cards to Foundations (When Strategic)
While Aces and Twos should go to the foundations, higher cards (e.g., 5s or 6s) might be more useful in the tableau to unlock hidden cards or build sequences. For example, if moving a black 6 to its foundation prevents you from placing a red 5 to reveal a hidden card, keep the 6 in the tableau.
