Mahjong solitaire is a solitary matching game that employs a set of Mahjong tiles instead of traditional playing cards. This computer version was first developed by Brodie Lockard in 1981 and was initially named Mah-Jongg, referencing the original game that utilizes the same tiles. Lockard asserts that it draws inspiration from an ancient Chinese game known as "the Turtle." However, significant popularity arose when Activision launched Shanghai in 1986 for Macintosh and Apple IIgs. Additionally, a variant of this game appeared in the Microsoft Entertainment Pack for Windows 3.x in 1990 under the name Taipei, which was later featured in the Best of Windows Entertainment Pack. Later editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 also included a version called Mahjong Titans.

Like many successful games, countless clones have emerged across various platforms. But why opt for our version? We aimed to capture all the enjoyment of the original game, offering 60 unique layouts in a compact download package.

A tile can be described as exposed if it can be moved left or right without affecting surrounding tiles. Exposed pairs of matching tiles (including Flower and Seasons tiles considered the same) are eliminated from the layout one by one, gradually revealing the underlying layers for further play. The objective is to completely clear the layout by pairing together all the tiles. The game concludes when either the layout is entirely empty or no exposed pairs remain.

Mahjong Solitaire Tips & Tricks

Understand the Rules

The goal of Mahjong Solitaire is to match and remove pairs of tiles that are free (not covered by other tiles and not locked in place). Understanding this simple concept is key to winning the game. Keep an eye out for tiles that are exposed and can be moved.

Focus on Uncovered Tiles First

Always try to remove the tiles that are fully exposed first. This opens up more space and helps you spot new potential matches. If you start with covered tiles, you might limit your options down the line.

Use the Undo Button

Don't hesitate to use the undo feature if you feel like you’ve made a wrong move. It’s a great tool for learning, but be careful not to over-rely on it. The undo option is there to help, but sometimes it’s better to try and think ahead.

Plan Ahead

Take your time and think a couple of moves ahead. Sometimes removing a tile that seems to have an immediate match can block off other matches. If you think ahead, you can avoid getting stuck.

Use the Shuffle Option Wisely

The shuffle button is a lifesaver when you feel stuck and can't find any more moves. However, try to use it sparingly, as it may disrupt some of your planned matches. Shuffle only when you have no more available moves or when it will help open up the board.

Clear the Center First

Tiles in the center of the board are often the most difficult to access. Start working on the center early in the game to open up surrounding areas. This strategy will make it easier to complete the board without getting stuck.

Manjong brings so much joy! The game is fantastic! I enjoy playing it on my phone and laptop. It feels amazing to switch up the layouts during levels whenever I want. No need to quit and search for a different game. Just seamless fun all the way!

I used to play this game on my desktop. Finding it as an app made me really happy.

It's frustrating when it works, then suddenly the machine gets hot. It uses too much RAM, leaving you with a mess to clean up after gaming. You might get close to finishing, but then you see that dreaded message: "Unfortunately, Mahjong has stopped working." Trying on another device ends in disappointment. No more attempts. One more failure would be too much!

Oh no, that's rough! It sounds so frustrating when a game stops responding. It used to bring you so much joy. Have you tried restarting the app or your device? Sometimes that does the trick. If not, maybe check for updates or reinstall it. Hopefully, you can get back to playing soon!

I found a great mah-jong game. It keeps it simple but offers many layouts to pick from. If you enjoy playing mah-jong without extra features, this is the perfect choice.

I loved playing that game, but things changed. I switched to a Samsung Galaxy S-6. The phone runs smoothly, but the game? Not so much. It keeps losing tiles and freezing up. I deleted it and reinstalled it, hoping for a fix. Same issues popped up again. This needs attention, or I'll have to consider other options!

I remember those days so well! Sitting in front of my laptop for hours, completely immersed in the game. Windows 7 had that nostalgic feel. The graphics, the music, the excitement! Time flew by as I explored and achieved new levels. Those memories bring a smile to my face. Simple times filled with endless fun.

This mahjong engine feels just like another one from "tnatureii." Same code, just a different look. It makes me curious about how many other versions he has created with the same foundation. Overall, it comes off as average. The only level offers little challenge.
