FAQ

How do I create an account?

For mobile users, please download the free HomeWAV mobile app via the app store. It is available for iOS and Android users.

In order to set up your account, you’ll need to upload a profile picture of yourself that is head-on, from the shoulders up, and with no filters or alterations to the image. You’ll also need to upload a clear, readable picture of your government-issued ID. Acceptable IDs include your license, state ID, or passport.

How can I add funds to my account?

Log into your HomeWAV account and click “Add ‘Talk to Me’ Funds.” Enter the number of dollars you want to add to your account and click “update.” Choose how you’d like to pay; we accept credit, debit, prepaid cards, cash, Venmo, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

How can I tell if my account has been approved?

Once your account has been approved by the detention facility, you will receive a notification every time your incarcerated loved one logs into a HomeWAV kiosk.

In most cases, your account will be reviewed within a 24-hour time period, and the review process typically doesn’t take more than two days. When you open the HomeWAV app or log in, your loved one will receive a notification that you are available, and they may initiate a video call.

For optimal performance, utilizing a WIFI connection and headsets is recommended.

Note: Availability may vary by facility, and charges for phone and video services differ.

Once everything runs smoothly, it feels amazing. Sometimes, I find myself spending around $35 in just one day because of technical glitches. It's frustrating. I really love modern technology. It strengthens our connection and makes us feel closer instead of drifting apart. They should definitely add more kiosks so everyone can have a chance to talk to their loved ones without the stress of competing for a spot. Overall, it's a fantastic idea. Huge thanks to everyone who keeps things up and running and fixes the problems. It allows us to stay connected with those we care about.

This app is a nightmare! When an inmate calls, you have to open the app and click around just to see the right names and amounts. Then maybe you can answer the call. Some days are better than others. On bad days, you might feel your phone vibrate or hear it ring, but the call won’t show up. The inmate can’t even reach out for no clear reason. Sometimes it claims I'm online when I’m not, messing up our schedules. Plus, it skips and eats your money!

The sound quality impresses. The pictures look fantastic. Setting it up is a breeze. Truly the simplest setup I've encountered.

This app is a disaster. The inmate's voice comes through the tiny speaker meant for calls, not the one that lets you see and hear them clearly. Most of the time, he can't even hear me! I tried Bluetooth headsets and different speakers, but 75% of the time, there's no sound on his end. And still, we get charged for this? The video messages show up zoomed in like crazy. This app is just terrible!

After the update, only a couple of good calls happened. Notifications pop up saying he is available, but connecting is tricky when I log on. The app keeps me in touch, but I've thought about deleting it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but I face the same problems. I've spent money using this app, but it works only when it feels like it. This situation needs fixing. There should not be so many issues, and the stress from all of this is unnecessary.

Sometimes visual or audio presents challenges. Most of the time, it runs smoothly. A solid method to connect with inmates.

This app is amazing! I love being able to talk to someone in jail. Sometimes, the connection drops, which can be frustrating. Fortunately, there's a report button to let them know about these issues, so they can fix things. I've spent quite a bit of money on it. Recently, I noticed a message saying something is on the way. I'm not sure what it is yet, but fingers crossed it's free call time to make up for those connection problems. Overall, a great experience!

I really enjoyed using the app until the recent update. Now I run into issues when trying to add videos from my phone. I tap on the "+" icon, then select "my files," and an alert pops up asking me to allow sharing of videos and photos. However, there’s no option to grant that permission. I checked the app settings, but "files" isn’t even listed as an option, just microphone and camera permissions. This needs fixing!

This app is frustrating. You have to keep it open just to be online. When the party finally connects, the call quality shines. But notifications and messaging? They fall flat. I tried to deactivate my account. The agent told me there’s no way to erase it completely. My driver's license information will always linger on this app. If I had known that, signing up would never have crossed my mind.
