1. Delete the browser cache (see the browser menu; for Google Chrome, detailed instructions are here.
2. Try another browser. It is recommended to use Google Chrome
3. Update the Adobe Flash Player plugin: Adobe Flash Player
In most cases, following the recommendations from the list above will solve the problem. If the recommendations did not help, then try to enter the game from another computer. If everything is fine, then look for problems on your computer: check the general functionality of the VKontakte website at the moment, the operating system, the availability of free space on the system disk, the absence of viruses on the computer, etc. If you see similar problems on another computer, then perhaps VKontakte is currently having problems with access to the application for all or some user accounts. Try to enter the game after a while.
In the Google Chrome browser, the chat does not switch to Russian.
In all applications in the Google Chrome browser, the language layout is switched by key combinations: Ctrl + Shift + Shift or Alt + Shift + Shift.
What sources of information are absolutely not suitable as evidence of the suitability of words for the game?
1. Dictionaries in which colloquial, dialectal and slang words are not separated from other words
- Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language by Dahl
- Etymological Dictionary of the Russian Language by Max Vasmer
- ...
2. Slang and obscene dictionaries
- Dictionaries of Russian argot
- Dictionaries of youth slang
- Dictionaries of Russian obscenities
- ...
3. "Cool" encyclopedias
- http://absurdopedia.wikia.com ("Absurdopedia")
- http://lurkmore.ru ("Lurkomorye")
- ...
4. "Grandmother, grandfather, teacher, ... told"
Why is Dahl's dictionary not evidence of the suitability of words for the game?
"Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language" by Vladimir Ivanovich Dahl was first published in the mid-19th century (vol. 1-4, 1863 - 1866). I will quote the annotation to the modern edition:
"Unlike the academic dictionaries of that time, it contains the vocabulary of living folk speech, collected by the author in different regions of Russia, as well as phraseology, proverbs, sayings, comparisons, etc.
To this day, despite the existence of predecessor dictionaries, dialect, diachronic, jargon dictionaries, multi-volume modern lexicographic descriptions, from time to time it turns out that Dahl's Dictionary reflects the Russian language more accurately or fully. This is a collection of Russian vocabulary, related mainly to dialects and professional jargons, compiled by a self-taught amateur, who repeatedly called for writing as we speak, not to preach literacy as salvation, not to make any sacrifices for its universal establishment, who advocated for the complete deliverance of the Russian language from foreign borrowings.
The dictionary contains a certain amount of unreliable material (occasional words), sometimes sins against grammar (for example, a prefix is regularly called a preposition), but paradoxically accurately conveys both the linguistic realities of the 19th century and the expressiveness of dialects that still exist today."
Thus, Dahl's dictionary is a collection of all sorts of dialects from 150 years ago. According to the rules of the game, dialect words are not accepted.
Example of an entry from Dahl's dictionary:
"KUR m. rooster, peven, petel, kochet: hen, chicken, in places lower and Cossack. kurita, master. kureta f. chicken, chicken diminishes. female chicken, rooster; female black grouse and other birds of the chicken genus. Chicken enlarged. large, Dutch chicken; chickens pl. roosters and chickens."
If you look at any standard dictionaries, then for a third of this list of "chicken" words, overheard by Dahl 150 years ago in some villages, there are notes indicating the inadmissibility of the words according to the rules of the game: "local", "regional", "colloquial", "lower". And the second third of the list of "chicken" words, in general, is not in the dictionaries of the 20th-21st centuries. Although modern explanatory dictionaries are full of obsolete, but previously literary words of the Russian language (with the notes "old." or "outdated.")
Or here is a colloquial word "бут" according to all normal dictionaries, which is overgrown with a bunch of colloquial-dialectal variations:
"ПУЗО cf. бутзочка, бутозочка, бутизще; убозро, убоздро; брюхо, жаш, чево, Тезво, кезво, бетостная, with all entrails and covers, especially stomach and intestines. Grew a убозо, got rich and got fat. To fill a убозо, to eat one's fill. Not only убозо thinks about food: even a thin belly cannot live without food. A Russian slipped under a Frenchman's убозо (1812). A swollen place on something, a hump or a box. A убозо of a barrel, the middle, where it is thicker. A wall bulged out with a убозо. Бузо balalaika, bandura, rounded part of the body. Pazu sail. Pazudro, sib. head part of the belly in animals, below the navel. Pazu m. old. bread measure. And the replenishment took esmy ten pazus rye (maybe of another root). Pazusty, pazusty, paunchy, big-bellied. Pazusty horse. Pazusty jug, bottle. Pazusty barrel. Pazusty gentleman. Pazuzy m. pazunya f. pazunyk, pazutyk, pazunyshcha, puzdr+kha ob. chicken. pazudy, pazudy person. Pazuzy, Kamchadal. whole, uncleaned fish, for winter storage (isn't that a Kamchadal word?). Pazuzyan fish, or pazutka, similar to an inflated bladder...."
Or here is another typical example of an entry from Dahl's dictionary:
"KORNIZ, see cornice."
Write "cornice" with an "a", write it with an "o". Dahl doesn't care at all.
Recommendations:
Look for definitions of words in explanatory dictionaries or encyclopedias compiled in the 20th or 21st centuries, and if possible, check the spelling in the spelling dictionary: http://www.gramota.ru/slovari/dic/.
