♞ This game is suitable for players of all ages, catering to both newcomers and seasoned competitors. You can play anytime, anywhere, without needing an internet connection.
Chess takes place on a checkered board made up of 64 squares in an 8×8 grid configuration. Each player starts with 16 pieces: 1 king, 1 queen, 2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops, and 8 pawns. Each type of piece has its own unique movement pattern, with the queen being the most powerful and the pawn the least. The player controlling white always makes the first move. The goal is to capture the opponent’s king by putting it in a position where it cannot escape capture, known as checkmate.
A victory can also be secured if the opponent voluntarily concedes, often happening when they lose too many pieces. There are several scenarios where a game may result in a draw.
Chess is purely a game of skill, grounded in tactics and strategy, which aids players in enhancing their critical thinking and creativity.
How do the chess pieces move?
♙ Pawn: Moves forward one square or two squares on its initial move. Pawns can capture diagonally one square in front of them.
♜ Rook: Can move any number of squares horizontally or vertically.
♝ Bishop: Moves diagonally across squares that share the same color.
♞ Knight: Each player has 2 knights placed between the rooks and bishops on the board. Knights move in an L shape.
♛ Queen: Can travel to any square on the board either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
♚ King: Moves one square in any direction and must never enter a check position.
When capturing an opponent's piece, the attacking piece 🎯 moves to the vacated square, and the captured piece is removed from the board.
If the king is in check, the player must make a move to remove the check; failure to do so results in checkmate, leading to a loss.
