Details of the game

Appearance

Underworld office

Charlie is an evil spirit of an unknown gender. Their body is completely black and shapeless. Large strands of unruly hair protrude from Charlie's head. Their eyes are white with scattered tiny black pupils and are the most distinct part of Charlie's body. The neck and abdominal area are jagged and a significant portion of Charlie's abdomen is missing, save for a thin diagonal line that connects the upper and lower body. The right leg is also almost completely detached. Charlie often carries a pair of black sharp scissors that is their keepsake, which they use to terrorize or “kill” other ghosts.

Charlie in Underworld

(Concept art)

As a human, Charlie has unruly dark brown hair and a peach skin tone. They are commonly depicted with an olive-green short-sleeved shirt with a purple collar and at the end of its sleeves. Their pants are a dark teal and as are their shoes. During their time as a mortal, Charlie often carried a pair of scissors.

As a ghost, Charlie is almost completely white, save for some small black areas on their hands and face. As the plot progresses and more of Charlie’s memories resurface, more of Charlie's body turns back to shadow starting with their arms.

Unlike in the previous game, Charlie's body is neither missing any parts nor have any areas distorted.

Personality

Underworld Office

Charlie is a vengeful spirit who tries to maltreat people through nightmares in order to feel powerful. Eugene first finds Charlie in the subway attempting to cause multiple passengers a heart attack in their sleep.

If Eugene chooses to release Charlie in Chapter 5, Charlie will express annoyance at being indebted to a "tiny bastard" and may enthusiastically return in Chapter 7 to help if Eugene decides to kill Jack. If Eugene hesitates, Charlie will scold them and become even more aggressive if Eugene shows pusillanimity, but will applaud them if they go for the kill.

Charlie in Underworld

Like Eugene in Underworld Office!, Charlie can have any personality that the player wants to give them, although many dialogue options suggest Charlie is cocky and often swears. They are also shown to be disrespectful towards others.

At the beginning of the game, Charlie has no memories due to being sealed in Joan's cane during the events of Underworld Office!. As Charlie in Underworld progresses, Charlie's memories return and their shadows begin to reappear. By the end of the game, they are almost completely dark, except for a few tiny bright areas thanks to their regret over what happened during their mortal life with Mike and their mother.

Based on Charlie’s memories as a human, Charlie wasn’t very sociable during their time as a mortal and preferred to cut out paper figures rather than talk to their classmates except for Mike, who approached them in a friendly manner even after “the incident”. Despite Charlie not behaving in a friendly manner in return, Charlie felt bad for what they did to Mike and always acknowledged their friend is a good person.

Trivia

According to Team 344, the gender of both Charlie and Eugene depend on the player's preference.[1] Thus, their genders are ambiguous and their pronouns are set to "they/them". However, several dialogue in game refers to Charlie as “she/her”, "he/him", and "it/its". In both games, "he/him" pronouns are rarely used on Charlie. On a side note, the creator herself showed discomfort when she accidentally used "he/him" on Charlie in one of her deleted posts.

While it is not clear how Charlie died, it’s implied that their death happened some time after attacking their abusive and strict father with their scissors, likely outside after running away from home.

Miltteok and Jiwoo confirmed that Charlie does not have a canon cause of death.

This game is simply amazing. The story hooks you right from the start. Ads don’t overwhelm the experience, which is a relief. It delivers strong messages too. I’m not done yet, but what I've played has been incredible. The gameplay keeps you engaged, and those cutscenes? Stunning animation that pulls at your heartstrings. I can't get enough of this game, or novel, however you'd describe it. It's just pure love!

The art absolutely shines, a real treat for the eyes. This sequel pulls at those nostalgic strings, reminding me of all the fun from the first game. Most games from this studio often feel like cash grabs, searching for every opportunity to squeeze out money. Ads pop up constantly, every few seconds it seems. Trying to explore different routes gets frustrating when ticket limits force you into that situation. It takes away from the experience and really dampens the enjoyment.

The premise dazzles. Underworld Office captured my heart completely. I want to give this game 4 or 5 stars, but it’s a frustrating experience. Once the tickets run out, the game becomes unplayable. Ads refuse to load for more tickets and the app crashes right after an ad finally appears. It’s a broken mechanic. Buying tickets presents the same issues. If the desire to play is strong, my advice is to invest in the ticket-free version.

The storyline is compelling and engaging. You can dive right into this game without needing to play the first one, but enjoying that first game adds richness to the experience. The emotional depth really hit me in some chapters; a few moments even made me tear up. The ads feel manageable too. They don’t interrupt the flow much and come with benefits. Sometimes they pop up after making a choice, which can be slightly frustrating, but it’s a small price to pay. Supporting the developers feels worthwhile.

What an amazing game! The character's backstory shines brightly, captivating every player. The main character Charlie brings depth and excitement. The plot keeps you hooked, begging for more twists and turns. New mechanics like pause, save, and load add a fresh feel to the experience. Every moment draws you in deeper, making it hard to put down.

Underworld Office really strikes a chord! Playing with Eugene years ago created such a memorable experience. This new game brings all those nostalgic vibes back. The suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the character development is so well done. The storyline flows beautifully. Plus, being able to earn tickets through ads instead of just paying makes it even better! Huge thanks for crafting such an incredible and meaningful game. Can’t wait for what’s next!

Crashes happened a few times. Had to repeat parts of the story and re-answer some choices. That was frustrating. Still, I absolutely love this app. Progressing feels effortless. The story pulls you in. The format stands out with texts and pictures blending well together. The colors and text are gentle on the eyes too. Overall, it’s such a fun experience.

This sequel felt a bit tangled. The philosophical conflict didn’t click for me. Charlie came off as difficult to connect with. I have so much love for the first one, but this one missed the mark. The art style dazzled, music struck the right chords, and emotions flowed beautifully. Yet, the storyline confused me. External plot points scattered in different directions. The ending felt vague. Still, I want to dive back in to explore all the endings. A third installment? Count me in!

That experience really struck a chord. Playing this game was worth it. I found it more engaging than the last one. The mechanics felt sharper, and I appreciated having that pause button at my fingertips. The art and music continued to impress, just like before. The ticket usage definitely went up with those key decisions. The story took unexpected turns, especially with Charlie as the main perspective. He fit perfectly into the narrative. I actually gained insights along the way. Thank you for this journey. Eagerly awaiting your next creation!
