Introduction
Bid Whist is an engaging and widely played partnership trick-taking game. It utilizes a standard deck of 52 cards in addition to 2 jokers, bringing the total to 54 cards. The game involves four players who form two teams, with each player positioned directly across from their partner. Each team starts with a score of zero, and the goal is to reach a score of 7 points or more, or to make the opposing team drop to a score of negative 7 or more. Points are earned by making bids and winning tricks, which are referred to as books in this game.
*No Trump Bids will result in double points (whether you win or lose the bid)
The Bidding Process
--Bidding proceeds around the table just once, commencing with the player sitting to the left of the dealer. Each bid consists of a number ranging from 4 to 7, accompanied by a suffix of "uptown," "downtown," or "no trump."
--The numerical value reflects the number of books above 6 that the bidding team commits to securing – for instance, a bid of 5 signifies a pledge to win at least 11 books (6 + 5). With a total of 13 books in play, 7 stands as the maximum bid.
-"Uptown" (or "high") indicates the intention to designate a trump suit, where high cards will prevail.
-"No Trump" denotes that there will be no trump suit, allowing the winning bidder to later decide whether high or low cards take precedence.
Notice
An option has been introduced for either Easy or Traditional (Hard Bidding). Under Hard Bidding, players can only view the Kitty Cards after selecting their Trump Suit and Direction (Uptown or Downtown). Conversely, with Easy Bidding, players are allowed to see the Kitty cards prior to choosing the Trump Suit or Direction (in the event of a No Trump Bid).
