Players and Cards
The 29 Card (Tash) game is typically played with four participants who form two teams with fixed partnerships, facing each other. This game utilizes 32 cards from a standard 52-card deck. Each suit—hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades—contains eight cards. The rank order of the cards from highest to lowest is: J, 9, A, 10, K, Q, 8, and 7. The objective of the game is to seize tricks containing cards of significant value.
The card values are as follows:
Jacks = 3 points each
Nines = 2 points each
Aces = 1 point each
Tens = 1 point each
Other cards rank from high to low: K > Q > 8 > 7, but carry no points
Deal and Bidding
In the online 29 Card game, dealing and play occur in an anti-clockwise manner. Cards are dealt in two phases, with four cards given during each phase. Players bid for the privilege of selecting the trump suit based on their initial four cards, normally within a range of 16 to 28. The winner of the bid chooses the trump suit discreetly, leaving other players unaware of what the trump suit is at first.
Gameplay of Twenty Nine
The player sitting to the right of the dealer leads the initial trick, and subsequent players must follow the lead suit if possible. The highest card of the leading suit captures the trick, with the winner of each trick leading the next one. If players cannot follow suit, they can either play a trump card or discard any card from another suit as they wish.
Scoring
After all eight tricks are completed, points from the won tricks are counted by each team. The bidding team needs to accumulate at least as many points as they bid, failing which they lose, adjusted for a declaration of a Pair if relevant, resulting in a gain of one game point; otherwise, they incur a loss of one game point. The opposing team's score remains unchanged.
Miscellaneous Rules
The game is voided under certain circumstances:
If the initial hand dealt to the first player lacks points, a reshuffle may occur.
If any player receives eight cards worth zero points.
If a player holds all four Jacks.
If one player possesses all cards of a single suit.
If the player adjacent to the dealer has only point-less cards.
Pair Rule
The pairing of the "King and Queen," two trump cards held in hand, is referred to as Marriage. This pair rule can adjust the bid value by four points. The pair should be revealed only after the trump card is disclosed and once either party takes a turn following this revelation.
Single Hand
Once cards are dealt, before the first trick's lead begins, a player with exceptionally strong cards may declare a 'single hand,' committing to win all eight tricks independently. In this instance, there will be no trump, and the declaring player leads the first trick while their partner lays their cards face down, participating not in the game. If the lone player wins all eight tricks, their team scores three game points; otherwise, they lose three points.
