better in-app support suggested

112 Suomi is the mobile app of the Emergency Response Centre Agency, developed in collaboration with Finnish security-sector companies. The app is created to assist users in quickly accessing the appropriate service during emergencies and problematic situations.

Benefits of the app include:

- Instantly getting help in emergencies and problem scenarios.

- Automatically sharing your location information with the Emergency Response Centre when contacting emergency services through the app.

- Providing your location details to the Road Users’ Hotline and Maritime Rescue Centre when using the app to call them.

- Accessing hotlines for non-urgent situations and locating the nearest defibrillator.

- Registering travel information with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for overseas trips.

- Finding instruction cards for boaters during emergencies, stroke symptoms list, and guidance for various situations.

- Avoiding risky circumstances by receiving regional public safety alerts and notifications through the app, as it's one of the official platforms for public warnings.

By utilizing 112 Suomi, you agree to the app's Terms and Conditions, and the data controller for the app is the Emergency Response Centre Agency. Additionally, more details about the application can be found on the Emergency Response Centre Agency's website.

Tips

If your phone is on silent, new notifications will show on the screen but there will be no sound.

Most phone models enable individual applications to be muted, including the 112 Suomi application. If the phone is on silent, it is not possible to enable the sounds of an individual application.

Notification Recognition

The public warning sound signal is distinctive, and most people in Finland will recognise it from the public warnings on television and radio. The Morse code sound for “CQ” (seek you) lasts two to three seconds and is the international code for public warnings.

The public notification sound signal is a short “ti tu” lasting about half a second.

The sound signals are not repeated – they will only sound once.

So, I had to use this app to call emergency services twice. But both times, my location didn't go through. All they said was that they got my call but no idea where I was. It's kind of useless if the app can't send my location when I'm calling for help.

Shouldn't we code it so that when you make a call, the GPS location turns on automatically if it's not already? Nobody in a panic will think to start adjusting GPS settings.

A bug has been around for a while, giving outdated notifications repeatedly. The app will be removed soon.

Ugh, this traffic report is so irritating. Can't find a save button in the notification settings to turn it off. Changes are not getting saved automatically. Guess I'll have to disable the app until you sort this out.

I'm not really in trouble, just a bit frustrated because the app keeps asking for a phone number. It seems like a bug. Looks like it's pretty standard for public IT projects. How is it possible that this issue wasn't caught during testing before the release?

It does what it's supposed to do. The controls for choosing the notifications you want are good.

So, like, you know when you have to type in your phone number every time you open the app? Is that a bug or a feature?

The program is forcing the sharing of location data in the background. I don't think this should be mandatory. If it is, there should be assurance that the location data does not leave the device during normal usage (an emergency call is not normal usage). Based on location, notifications can also be filtered manually on the device and should not require sending the location to a server for possible storage (spying on a person!).
