How to use Premium Pro Radar
Below are a few tips to help you make the most of the iOS (iPhone, iPad) Premium and Premium Pro radar available in The Weather Channel app.
There are two basic control pages for your radar. The first is the “See All” button, in a row with some of the favorite Radar choices. You can slide through these choices by swiping the buttons left and right if they do not all fit on your screen at the same time.
This See All button provides access to various layers and controls related to the radar.
The other control panel on the bottom of the screen. That panel has three positions: fully closed, so that only a small bar above the central blue button on the bottom is visible (see screen shot, above right), fully open, so that it covers the radar page, and partially open, providing access to telling the radar to move and how (see screen shot, above left). If you close the panel completely, to reopen it, just tap on the bar, and it will fully open, providing you with access to some short-term information, like rain over the past 24 hours, and what is predicted over the next 24 hours. When you the tap the downward arrow at the top, the page will return to the partially open position. You can now slide the timing button right and left across time, or tap the right- pointing arrow on the left side of the timing bar to animate the radar.
To close the bottom panel completely, so you can see more radar space, swipe down on the panel, and it will slide away.
If your animation plays too slowly or quickly, you can control it by tapping on the Layers button on the right, and then on the top selecting “Animation speed”.
The 72-hour Radar provides a slightly different display for the partially opened bottom panel. With this radar, precipitation is noted on the timeline, to help you know what’s coming when.
When the “Radar with Lightning” is activated, you will see a circle showing the area within which the app is checking for lightning, and lightning icons displayed on the map. You may zoom in on your location to see if they are close to you.
When you turn on the “Windstream” or “Tropical cyclone tracks” overlays, keep in mind that they can slow down the animation (depending on how much processing power your device has). Also note that the “Radar / Clouds” layer does not include a future component, since it is based in part on satellite observations.
