What is Pay to Reject?

What’s happened? In response to recent enforcement action by the UK Information Commissioner against publishers, we have been forced to introduce new technology to ask our subscribers to consent to the advertising cookies that support our journalism, or pay a monthly fee that means we don’t need to use them.

How does Pay to Reject work?

When you visit our sites, you will see a pop up that asks you to either consent to cookies, or pay a small monthly fee. If you consent, then your experience will be as you would normally expect. You can continue to control cookies as before. However, if you choose to opt out of advertising cookies, then we will ask you to pay a small monthly fee to address the shortfall in revenues we need to continue to produce the quality journalism you expect from us.

What does non personalised ads mean?  

Non-personalised advertising does not use cookies to track the users interests or behaviours to target ads. 

What happens if I don't want to pay?

If I stop my payment, will I switch back to personalised adverts and if so when? 

If you cancel your subscription with Pay to Reject, the settings will change at the end of your current Pay to Reject subscription period.

Why do I need to pay when I already pay for a subscription?

The fee being charged in relation to cookies is not part of your subscription. If you choose to pay for us not to set advertising cookies, then that is separate to the monthly subscription you pay to access our content.

 What happens if I consent?

I've changed my mind, can I cancel and get a refund?  

If you would like to cancel within 14 days of purchasing Non-Personalised Ad Pay to Reject Access, we advise you to cancel through your Non-Personalised Ad Pay to Reject Access account HERE  your payment will automatically be refunded. 

Alternatively, you may email help@the-sun.co.uk from your registered email address, telling us you’d like to cancel. Requests made over 14 days will not be refunded.

Can I cancel my subscription?

By placing an order for a subscription to The Sun Digital Newspaper, you agree that your subscription starts immediately upon our acceptance of your order, the digital content will be available to you immediately, and you waive your statutory right to cancel your subscription within 14 days of our confirmation email. You can cancel your subscription anytime, but the cancellation will only take effect at the end of your current subscription period.

You can cancel your subscription by calling Customer Services on 0207 860 1129. Call us Monday – Friday 10am to 6pm or at the weekends 10am to 4pm. If you wish to cancel, you must call us at least 7 days before your next billing date.
