Taxi Deutschland Expands Smartphone App: 50,000 Taxis Can Be Ordered via Smartphone
The Taxi Deutschland app, developed for Android and iOS (iPhone), has been extensively redesigned and is now available in a new beta version in the Google and Apple app stores for download or upgrade. With the app, you can now easily book over 50,000 taxis across Germany.
New Technology "Under the Hood"
The biggest change in the popular app, which has been around since 2010, concerns the technology now provided by FMS/Austrosoft. By connecting to the TaBeA platform, which Taxi Deutschland has exclusively licensed, paying for taxi rides via the app is now possible everywhere.
Since the taxi industry, with its taxi centers and taxi operators, is very fragmented, a universal platform that everyone can connect to is a huge step and a real improvement for customers. The TaBeA platform, for example, enables national billing for large customers who make numerous trips in different cities.
In addition to the technical innovations, the new app brings other tangible benefits for users. It simplifies taxi ordering and payment throughout Germany.
Taxi ordering made easy
One focus of the improvements is to further simplify the ordering process and provide more information. Users are guided through the ordering process, can specify special requests, and receive real-time information about the arrival of their ordered taxi. Before ordering, after entering the pickup and destination addresses, the expected price for the ride is also displayed. For special instructions, it is possible to send a message directly to the booked taxi, for example, if the pickup location requires access to a parking lot.
The new version of the Taxi Deutschland app has been completely redesigned to make it even easier for passengers to order and pay for a taxi anywhere in Germany.
Payment via App
The new version of the Taxi Deutschland app offers various payment options that can be stored in the user account. Taxi Deutschland sets course for the future at its annual meeting
At the meeting of the members of the Taxi Deutschland central association, important topics were on the agenda: cooperation with Deutsche Telekom's new mobility platform "goodride," the revision of the Taxi Deutschland app, and news on TaBeA, Cloud-TSE, and Taxi4SmartMobility.
The challenges facing the taxi industry are palpable, and taxi dispatch centers are not spared. Many of them are organized in the Taxi Deutschland eG central association, which gathered its members for its annual meeting in Frankfurt on September 23 and 24. The cooperative of leading taxi dispatch centers is led by four board members and a supervisory board team of equal size. During the members-only general meeting, the board reported on a financially positive year. This year's agenda included the re-election of Fred Buchholz from the Bremen taxi dispatch center and the appointment of Jan Weber to the supervisory board following the departure of Thomas Lohse from Hansafunk last year.
New cooperation with Deutsche Telekom's mobility app goodride
After the formal votes, the meeting turned to technical discussions. A cooperation with Deutsche Telekom's mobility app "goodride" was a central topic. In addition to public transport options, the app also allows users to book rental bikes, scooters, and taxis. Frankfurt and some GefoS centers in North Rhine-Westphalia are participating in the test phase. The TaBeA platform will be integrated in the coming months, so that all centers across Germany will soon be able to book via goodride. The taxi functions in the app are being optimized in parallel to make booking a taxi via goodride even easier.
Taxi Deutschland app relaunch almost complete
An important milestone for Taxi Deutschland is the almost completed relaunch of its own app (Android/iPhone), which is now based on FMS technology. Michael Weiss of FMS Austrosoft emphasized the efficiency gains from merging three apps onto one platform, with each app retaining its own branding. This close collaboration not only facilitates technical development but also the introduction of the TaBeA platform for digital billing of rail taxi rides.
TaBeA enables billing for large national customers and has passed its baptism of fire with flying colors.
The TaBeA platform, operated by FMS and supported by GefoS and Seibt & Straub, also includes smaller providers such as Taxi.de and MPC. Taxi Deutschland acts as the central billing center. Revenue is impressive: €4.6 million has been generated so far, with an average value of €245.70 per trip. Deutsche Bahn also plans to expand this platform to include taxi usage by its train drivers.
Rail tender and future plans
Robert Abel of FMS reported on the current status of the tender for rail taxi services over the next five years. After the first application phase, the consortium of Taxi Deutschland, FMS, and BVTM was approved. The second phase involves the submission of price bids, and a decision on which providers will enter negotiations is expected in October. The tender volume totals €170 million.
Cloud TSE Solution
Another joint project between GefoS, FMS, and Seibt & Straub is the Cloud TSE solution developed by FMS. Seibt & Straub is currently integrating the FMS SmartHub, so that it can be installed in vehicles over the next few months. GefoS will follow a similar approach. The system providers have also produced an explanatory video and are providing information to member centers during numerous personal visits.
Lobbying and European Cooperation
As part of its European lobbying efforts, Taxi Deutschland is an active member of the "Taxis4Smart Mobility" organization. Gregor Beiner, representative of the organization and BVTM board member, reported on their efforts to position taxis as an indispensable means of transport in the minds of European politicians and in Europe's political decision-making processes.
The annual conference demonstrated that Taxi Deutschland is pursuing a clear strategy to cope with the growing pressure from new mobility providers and platforms. The technological development through the collaboration with Deutsche Telekom, the TaBeA billing platform, and the optimization of the in-house app are steps toward a modern, networked future and a national solution for passenger transport.
