Coming Together for Ruidoso
The heart of a community shines when neighbors support one another. That’s exactly what happened this summer after devastating floods hit Ruidoso, New Mexico.
On Wednesday, The United Family had the honor of presenting The Salvation Army of New Mexico with a check for $44,803.95 to support flood relief efforts.
In July, all Albertsons Market and Market Street locations across New Mexico launched a donate-at-the-register campaign. Guests could donate any amount and their generosity was once again remarkable. The United Family initiated the contributions with a leading gift of $5,000.
“As always, we are incredibly grateful to our guests for their generosity and willingness to support their neighbors in need following the horrible flooding this summer,” said John Jameson, regional vice president for The United Family. “We’re also thankful to organizations like The Salvation Army New Mexico, who are working to help the community recover.”
The Salvation Army has been on the ground providing food, drinks, emotional and spiritual care, and emergency services to survivors and first responders. With this donation, they’ll be able to continue helping families in Ruidoso as they heal and rebuild.
“The Salvation Army wishes to give our heartfelt thanks to The United Family and all the generous guests who donated to help their neighbors in need in Ruidoso,” said Lt. Colonel Charles Fowler, Commander of The Salvation Army Southwest Division, which serves New Mexico, Arizona, and Southern Nevada. “Such compassion from the community ensures that people in crisis receive the immediate and long-term support they need to heal, rebuild, and move forward with strength. Together, we fight natural disasters with acts of God.”
This effort is proof of what can happen when a community rallies together. Small acts of kindness at the register add up to make a huge difference.

Back to School Already?
Can you believe it’s already back-to-school season? It feels like summer just began!
Many of our United Family store teams across Texas and New Mexico are gearing up for another successful school year. Guests venture to their local grocery stores to purchase school supplies and lunchbox favorites. Not only are we proud to have stocked shelves with student’s favorites, we are also proud to support local education efforts in the communities we serve.
Last week, U-Crew from #513 United Supermarkets in Vernon gave back to their community by supporting a Back-to-School bash for the local Boys and Girls Club. The volunteers passed out school supplies to nearly 600 Vernon ISD students. Great work, Vernon U-Crew team!
In Borger, #539 United Supermarkets U-Crew helped prepare and serve more than 1,200 street tacos at the Hutchinson County United Way Back to School Fair! Impressive work.
At #553 Market Street in Lubbock, the floral counter offers on-theme balloons celebrating all things back-to-school! Team member Maria poses with a fun school bus mylar balloon to help celebrate the season!
Whether you’re a student, a teacher, a parent, or anyone excited about the new school year, The United Family wishes you a great year filled with success and healthy learning! Have the best year!
