The 'RedSticks' and Iberdrola, going for gold at the Terrassa World Cup
The Iberdrola Campus was the chosen venue to present the field hockey players selected for the upcoming World Cup.
The 'RedSticks' are ready for their next date with history. From July 1 to 17, the members of the National Field Hockey Team will compete in the World Cup with the goal of adding to their list of recent successes, including the bronze medal won in this same competition four years ago, in London 2018. And to do so, they have the home field advantage on their side.
The World Cup will be held in two venues, Terrassa and Amsterdam, which means the players will be supported not only by their fans but also by a stadium, the Terrassa Olympic Stadium, where the team won the Olympic gold medal in Barcelona in 1992. They will also be supported by Iberdrola, which sponsors both the team and the Iberdrola Hockey League and is a presenting partner of the World Cup.
NEW FACES
This is a renewed team, as eight of its members were not part of the squad that traveled to the Tokyo Olympic Games last summer. This was announced by Adrian Lock, the national team coach since 2013, during the presentation of the 20 players selected, which took place at the Iberdrola Campus on June 13. The coach highlights the "excitement" shared by all of them ahead of "a World Cup in which there are no favorites because all the participating countries are capable of winning matches." In addition to Spain and the Netherlands, the national teams of Belgium, England, Germany, Ireland, South Africa, China, Korea, India, Japan, Argentina, Canada, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand will compete for gold.
Iberdrola, which sponsors both the national team and the Iberdrola Hockey League
As hosts, the Spanish team will open the competition on July 1 in Terrassa, facing the Canadian national team. Their second group stage match will face Argentina on July 3, and the third, against Korea, will take place on the 7th. The president of the Royal Spanish Hockey Federation, Santiago Deó, is "confident that, as always, (the national team) will give their best with respect and sportsmanship to best represent our hockey and our country." Spain previously hosted the World Cup in 2006, held in Madrid, where the national team finished in fourth place.
MOMENTUM AND VISIBILITY
María López, co-captain of the team alongside Gigi Oliva, took advantage of the squad presentation to thank Iberdrola for its support, which she considers essential for the players to be "better prepared to face the competitions." On behalf of all of them, López presented a national team jersey to Iberdrola's Global Director of Marketing and Digitalization, David Gracia Fabre, who highlighted the "great opportunity to promote and raise the profile of women's hockey" that the World Cup offers. This is the main reason, he added, why the company has decided to support it as a presenting partner.

In 2016, Iberdrola became the first company to make a firm and global commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment through sport. Currently, the company supports 32 federations and lends its name to as many leagues, all of them in the top flight. Regarding women's hockey, the company has been supporting the major national competitions, the Iberdrola League and the Iberdrola Queen's Cup, as well as the national team, which will be hitting the turf of the Olympic Stadium starting July 1st, for six years.
