FAQ

1. I see the ā€œLast location updateā€ notification from the app. What does it mean?

Our app has always needed some background activity to properly update the weather information and current location. The ā€œLast location updateā€ notification is a visible identifier of our background activity. It appears after you grant our app long-time access to your location and then turn on the Location Update Notification option in settings. You can disable this option at any time in the app settings. However, please keep in mind that the app won’t be able to update the location in the background when the option is turned off. It is acceptable to turn it off for the days you spend in the same location. But this option helps us get more accurate data about your location (and therefore the weather in your area as thus) when you change your location throughout the day.

2. How do I save/delete a favorite location?

- Saving a favorite location

To save a favorite location, please go to the weather info page (a star icon at the bottom menu)

-> tap the Search & Add button (the ā€œplusā€ button top right corner)

-> find the location via the search field

-> tap the location name. A page with the weather info for this location should appear. In the top-right corner of this page, tap Add to save the selected location.

- Deleting a saved favorite location

To delete the saved location, please go to the location weather info page (a star icon at the bottom menu)

-> tap the list of your locations at the top-left corner

-> horizontally swipe the location you want to delete until the red ā€œdeleteā€ button appears.

3. I cannot find my city name on the map or the name of my town is misspelled on your map. Why?

Rain Viewer is created to process weather data. Unfortunately, we cannot influence cartographic data because we use default maps set by the device’s OS. Meanwhile, if you cannot find the location by its name, you can save it by long-tapping the map in the required area.

4. I want to use my subscription on devices with different OS (Android, iOS) and different store accounts (Google Play, AppStore, Huawei AppGallery). Can I?

Unfortunately no, sorry. Please kindly note that it is not possible to transfer purchases and subscriptions between different stores (e.g., AppStore and Google Play).

5. I’m a Premium user but after the reinstall, I no longer find any of my premium features and/or start seeing third-party ads. How do I return my subscription privileges?

If your subscription hasn’t been reactivated automatically after some manipulations, then please try to restore it manually. Follow these steps: Settings - Rain Viewer Premium - Show all Premium Features, and then tap Restore Purchase at the bottom of the screen. If you have an Android device, just wait a little: Rain Viewer checks your purchases automatically when you visit this screen. If nothing happens, check whether your device’s main account matches the one you previously made a purchase on. Please note that you cannot transfer purchases and subscriptions between the AppStore and Google Play.

The app was great in the beginning, but now it won't open. I tried reinstalling it a couple of times, but it keeps closing about 10 seconds after I open it. It's frustrating. When it does work, it's really useful, so I hope they fix it soon. I tried reinstalling it again to see if it would work properly. It did for a while, but now it's back to crashing a few seconds after opening. It's really testing my patience!

In Malaysia and Singapore, the app works smoothly. It would be fantastic if we could include favorite locations with GPS coordinates. This is helpful as it can be tricky to identify a specific spot, especially if it doesn't have a point of interest on the map.

Oh boy, I made some fixes but now it's just a one-star mess. I took out some stuff, like the regular and paid features, and the app is dragging its feet to load. It's still missing out on real, serious weather events, especially those new tiny storms popping up. I mean, Windy and WeatherBug are all over these small weather cells, and guess what, they're using the same radar sources as this app. Those developers must be in the dark about what's going on. I think I might ditch this app soon... From, someone who's been tracking weather radars for 17 years.

The accuracy is not good. The forecast for rain is often wrong. There is only one radar close by, and it seems to be turned off. It's good when it works, but the app design isn't great - it resembles a poorly done iPhone app. Among all the options after Dark Sky, this one is the best I've come across so far. However, there is much room for improvement. Hopefully, the developers continue to work on it because there is still a big gap left by Dark Sky. The widget is really good though!

So, you know how I picked out the Radar and Satellite map layers, right? And then I went with the setting for minimal rain intensity to be overcast. But guess what? It's been cloudy non-stop here in my spot in England for 3 whole days! And yet, when I look at the map it shows as clear as day! This is even the case for today, when there has been light rain all day. But I've gotta say, when it comes to showing heavier rain coming, the map is right on the money! Oh, and by the way, us English folks only use "with deepest sympathy" for someone who has lost a loved one!

Recently, I've been facing some big problems with my radar app. It's been taking over 30 seconds to load, just sitting there trying to connect. I've tried switching between different radar sources, reinstalling the app, and changing from WiFi to LTE, but nothing has worked. This is my go-to radar app, so I really hope you can fix it or at least let users know how to solve these performance issues.
