About PRTC:
The Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) in Patiala was established on October 16, 1956, under the Road Transport Corporations Act of 1950. Its aim was to create an efficient, adequate, and well-coordinated system for providing road transport services in the state. Initially, it began passenger transport operations with a modest investment of ₹25.00 lakh and a fleet of 60 buses, covering 11,107 kilometers daily across 15 routes with a workforce of 345 employees. Currently, PRTC operates 704 owned and 251 KM Scheme ordinary buses, along with 2 own and 11 Integral Coaches under the KM Scheme, and 59 own HVAC buses across 577 routes (including inter-state routes), achieving a daily mileage of 355,827 kilometers. As of April 30, 2012, the organization employed 2,271 regular staff, 1,460 outsourced personnel, 83 PESCO staff, and 186 on PRTC contracts, totaling around 4,000 employees. The corporation has 10 depots situated in Patiala, Bathinda, Kapurthala, Barnala, Sangrur, Budhlada, Faridkot, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, and a special cell for the KM Scheme located in Patiala.
Corporation Overview
The head office of Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) is based in Patiala. Beyond serving Punjab State, PRTC also offers bus services to surrounding states such as Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and the Union Territories of Chandigarh and Delhi.
PRTC not only operates on intercity routes but also connects remote villages with nearby towns and cities. Additionally, it provides free or discounted travel options to various groups of commuters in accordance with directives from the State Government issued periodically.
Note:
The timetables presented in this application are derived from data collected in November 2019. These schedules may be subject to changes and bus cancellations at the organization's discretion. For precise bus timings, please reach out to the relevant PRTC bus stations.
From Frustration to Freedom: How the PRTC App Became My Commuting Compass
Downloading this felt like finally cracking a secret code—what used to require frantic calls to depot offices or deciphering faded timetables taped to bus stops now fits in my palm. Beyond merely displaying schedules, this app transformed my chaotic daily grind into something unexpectedly serene. The real-time tracking isn’t just a blinking dot on a map; it’s a lifeline during Punjab’s torrential monsoons, predicting delays down to the minute as my bus navigates waterlogged Patiala lanes. I’ve learned to trust its arrival predictions implicitly—watching the "12 min" countdown tick precisely as I sip chai, sparing me the ankle-deep puddle splashes and impatient guessing games that once defined my mornings.
Purchasing tickets digitally was revelatory. No more fumbling for change while balancing bags—securing my seat to Chandigarh beforereaching the curb granted a stolen moment of calm. But the true magic lies in the depth of context. Seeing not just whenBus #704 departs Sangrur, but knowing its origin (Barnala Depot), expected stops, and even whether it’s an ordinary bus or a climate-controlled HVAC coach (vital in August’s swelter), made me feel like a logistics strategist, not a passive passenger. When my usual route canceled unexpectedly, the app didn’t just shrug—it highlighted alternative connections through Kapurthala, complete with transfer times. This isn’t just convenience; it’s agency. The PRTC app turned the sprawling, unpredictable web of inter-state travel into a choreographed dance I finally understood.
Included FAQs:
Q: How accurate is the "real-time tracking" during peak hours/monsoons?
A: Surprisingly reliable. It accounts for typical congestion patterns and weather disruptions, updating ETAs dynamically. Minor delays (<5 mins) occur, but severe holdups (accidents, protests) trigger visible alerts suggesting alternatives.
Q: Can I buy tickets for allPRTC routes, including interstate (e.g., Delhi-Himachal)?
A: Yes! Ticket purchasing covers ordinary, HVAC, and KM Scheme buses across all 577 routes, including cross-border trips to 7 states/UTs. Payment confirmations include coach type and seat number.
Q: How frequently is schedule data updated? App says "based on Nov 2019 data."
A: Core schedules remain stable, but real-time features use live GPS. For planned changes (festival specials, depot shifts), the "Service Alerts" section updates weekly. Always cross-check departures during harvest season or strikes.
Q: Does it show bus occupancy/crowd levels?
A: Indirectly—HVAC buses and Integral Coaches have reserved seating (visible during booking). Ordinary buses display historical "peak/off-peak" indicators per route but no live crowding data yet.
Q: What if my bus is canceled last minute?
A: The app pushes a notification immediately, highlights the next available departure (even from nearby depots), and offers instant ticket transfers/refunds via the "My Trips" section.
Q: Can I use it offline in remote villages?
A: Partial offline access: saved schedules, purchased tickets, and depot contacts work without signal. Real-time tracking and route adjustments require connectivity—download your regular routes beforehand.
Q: Are concessions (e.g., student/senior discounts) applicable in-app?
A: Yes! During booking, select "Concession Pass" and choose your category (requires digital ID upload). Fare adjusts instantly, subject to state government validation.
