Video consultation becomes mandatory for GPs. This is how EG Pasientsky helps you meet the deadline.
From 1 April 2026, a new national obligation will be introduced: all GPs must offer video consultations as part of their digital availability. This comes as part of the Government's modernization of the GP scheme, where the requirement includes both video, text, telephone and digital appointment booking through Helsenorge
The Government writes in its announcement that "digital consultation shall be an alternative to physical consultation" and that it is "the GP who assesses whether the inquiry is suitable for digital handling". This emphasizes that video consultation should not replace the physical offer, but expand it in a safe and professionally sound manner.
What does this mean for GPs?
Statutory requirement: Video consultation must be available to all patients if the inquiry is suitable for digital handling.
Technical requirement: The solution must be integrated and work seamlessly with medical records, appointment booking and other services.
Deadline: The requirement comes into effect on April 1, 2026.
