nightowl is correct the app does request microphone access in portrait mode and will work in landscape mode once accepted in portrait mode so I never went to portrait mode before but this was a fix to no microphone access requests….. I’m sure they will fix this in the newer versions. But for now it does work and I can speak through my doorbell! Ty support team! Newest app version does not request access to apple devices microphone their for the talk to someone on your porch doorbells feature does not work tried on 2 different phones and an iPad. Even went as far as buying a new doorbell same thing on brand new one. Definitely a issue with the app! It used to work in previous versions called tech support on with them for hours lvl 1 then 2 next is a supervisor that doesn’t seem to call you back I think cause they know it’s a flaw in their app!!!!! 0 stars so far they don’t seem that concerned..if it don’t work tech guys roll back to the version that did!

I’ve had this system for almost 2 years and even tho it comes with no audio, it’s been somewhat okay otherwise. Well, I guess the app updated, and now if I want to review something that happened 30 seconds ago, there’s no option to anymore. That feature was highly difficult to use via the app, but I was happy to have it. How are you supposed to feel secure if you can’t go back to see what happened on each camera? Before the downgrade or “update”, my cameras recorded 24/7. It may have reset the choices I’d selected, but I cannot find where I can see the days, weeks timeline like before. It only shows “events” where it detects human and absolutely nothing is happening on screen, or times where me or my boyfriend have left and walked around the areas of camera view & it doesn’t record or pick up a person or movement. It has potential, but if that feature, the only feature I liked about it is gone, plus I still have to figure out what “extra” parts/cables I have to additionally buy to get sound, then I’ll just go with another brand/entirely. (My Ring doorbell system does all of this with 2 way audio & for a lot less money). Hopefully I’m just not seeing the timeline review option since the update and it’ll show back up very soon somewhere in the app. Thank you.

Have spent months yes months working with this company to solve recording issues with their product. First if you are having an issue adjusting the zone sensitivity for each camera under record settings it’s not just you. We tried it on 4 different phones and the system will just reset it to medium if you set the lowest setting. They tried to play it off as a phone issue. Nope. Ultimately they didn’t address the issue and implied a refund and then recanted because it went past 30 days even though we had been working the issue. To make matters worse during the troubleshooting they shipped me a replacement nvr and put it is a large usps mailer box with absolutely no packing material. Ultimately this was not a fix. This system will say it sees a face or car when there is nothing there. The main reason I wanted to adjust the sensitivity. Just so you know they use the same software on all their kits so I would avoid them all together. If I could give 0 stars for this company I would. Absolutely terrible experience and product.

After troubleshooting with my Internet provider I discovered that night owl system causes me to lose Internet connection on my phone. The night owl app is causing it. How to stop this from happening… other than not all wifi connection to the app…does anyone know? Seeing all the reviews kinda concerning… is there any humans in tech support at night owl to help with this???? Also no recordings are made by system. And yes app takes forever to load to view once you get an alert forget it… by then person who attempted entry could be gone. What is this? A joke??? I wish we hadn’t spent the money or time….

We love our’s . The camera’s have excellent picture quality. There is a few negative things but for us they are easy to overlook being our system is several years old . The ability to communicate through them to someone is lacking “I’m assuming due to the speaker size and placement in the camera” and we haven’t found a great setting that isn’t sending too many notifications due to sunlight and shadows on our porch . But for us we are more than happy with our system . I do also wish the base didn’t have to be plugged into a router or modem and would capitalize on WiFi . But again for us it hasn’t been anything to make it so we wouldn’t purchase again . I would definitely recommend to someone who isn’t wanting to spend a fortune but wants amazing picture and video quality especially at night !

Just replaced a 7 year old night owl system with the new 8 channel 4K wired cameras. Setup was very easy. I had one glitch in the app after installing, 24 hrs after installation the app said that said no device added and couldn’t connect. I reloaded and is fine as of now. I have one bad camera that the light and night vision doesn’t work, I tried another camera on that channel and it works. Waiting to get a email from warranty department on replacing after calling this morning. Only con I would say with the camera system is that the cameras themselves although very clear picture compared to my old 720k, they seem very cheaply made. The old ones were all metal and strong, these are all plastic and very light. Only time will tell how they hold up to the elements all of which were fully exposed, the 7 year old cameras I had were still in good condition after going through all the years of temperatures as low as -6f up to 110f and in direct sunlight, heavy rains and snow.

    This is a re-review. Previously, I gave it one star. Now, I want to connect to my night owl (dp8) locally from my phone or browser, without needing an internet connection. Some DVRs had this feature in the past, but it seems my DVR doesn’t support it. Setting the DVR as a static IP doesn’t fix the problem. I know I can connect using a screen and mouse, but I really want remote access on LAN, no internet required.

    The number of false alerts for human detection is outrageous. I set the sensitivity to low, yet it still insists on detecting humans. When I check the cameras, there’s nobody in sight. A feature that outlines the detection area would be great. It wouldn’t eliminate the false alerts, but it would help us understand what the system is picking up. On top of that, I received two cameras that wouldn’t power on right out of the box and two wires had shorts.

    The app became impossible to use. The live feed turned into a scrambled mess. I restarted my device and cleared the cache multiple times. Nothing changed. I decided to update to the latest version, but the same issues cropped up again. This made the app completely unusable. *Update* I figured out that the issue stems from my Wi-Fi connection. It's odd since I never faced this problem before.

    I've dealt with two night owl systems for ages. It's been a frustrating experience. Notifications flood in, but recordings are non-existent. Random objects show up as people, and car wheels somehow turn into faces. The latest update pushed me over the edge. It gives alerts without specifying which camera triggered them. Whoever came up with that should face consequences. I've made up my mind to switch to a different system. This has just been a money pit. The generic responses to every review say it all about this product. Edit: They managed to fix the notification issue. Maybe that designer gets to keep their job after all.
