The MVV-App is a journey planning application developed by the Munich transport association (Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund, MVV). It is completely free and does not contain any advertisements.
The app offers travel information for the entire public transport network in Munich and its surrounding regions, including districts such as Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Dachau, Ebersberg, Erding, Freising, Fürstenfeldbruck, Miesbach, München, Rosenheim, and Starnberg. This covers transportation options like trains, suburban railways, underground services, trams, and buses, often featuring real-time updates. Users can also conveniently purchase selected MVV tickets using their smartphones or tablets while on the move.
By registering once, users can access single trip tickets or opt for day tickets for their stay in Munich via the MVV-App. Moreover, the app offers comprehensive information about public transport in the Greater Munich Area, including public transport maps, tariff details, and timetable changes.
Features:
• Departures: Real-time departure information, displaying upcoming departures and arrivals from a selected stop or nearby stops based on the user's current location.
• Trips: Journey planner to find the fastest route from point A to point B, often with real-time updates. Users can input a stop name, a point of interest, an address, or use GPS for current location. The results include walking directions and enable ticket purchase directly from the planner.
• Disruptions: Overview of service disruptions that may impact daily commutes, categorized by lines and operation names (descriptions currently available only in German).
• Tickets: Purchase various MVV tickets as mobile tickets through the "Tickets" menu option. Users can register at listed shops, select tickets, and make payment via Google Pay, credit card, or direct debit.
• Network plans: Access to different public transport network plans and tariff maps; some plans are available in English. For instance, the general plan of regional trains, suburban trains, and underground services across the MVV area.
• Interactive map: Utilize the interactive map for navigation within the MVV area and to view nearby departures with GPS assistance.
• Settings: Customize preferences to avoid stairs, minimize walking time, prioritize biking, and exclude connections outside the MVV tariff integration.
User guidance & operation
Reach your destination intiuitively with the MVV app.
Directly on the homepage you will find the entry into the connection search - and thus the starting point for a lot of helpful information about your journey, including the right mobile ticket. All other functions of the MVV app can be conveniently accessed via the menus.
In the current version, the MVV app follows a two-part menu navigation.
The Quick Access Bar:
The most important menu items and functions are accessible with one click via the quick access bar at the bottom of the screen, no matter which view of the app you are currently in.
Would you like to have other functions stored there that you use more often? Just long-click on the quick access bar to get to the configuration area. You can assign up to five functions to the quick access bar and also change the sorting of the individual points.
The main menu:
You can access all areas of the MVV app via the main menu. So also functions that you usually need less often. You can access the main menu, which is designed as a "hamburger menu", on all main pages via the menu icon at the top left of the screen.
The search (trip information)
This is how you get to your destination. By public transport, with Park & Ride or in combination with sharing offers.
The trip information is the right place for you if you are looking for connections to get from A to B. You can search for stops, addresses, or points of interest (POIs).
Our connection search always searches for the fastest travel option in the standard settings and automatically takes into account all live data transmitted from the vehicles and control centers (punctuality forecasts, delay information, fault notices, etc.). The app also displays all available messages and occupancy forecasts. Via the settings of our app, you can adapt the connection search to your needs - for example, stairs can be excluded or targeted connections with few changes can be searched. In the settings, you can also specify whether you always want to preset the starting point with your current position, or whether you want to type in the starting point yourself for each search.
With each search, you will usually receive several trip suggestions from which you can choose the connection that suits you. By clicking on the trip suggestion that suits you, you will be shown all further information (e.g. footpaths or transfer points).
In addition to the travel options in public transport, you can also display ride suggestions with rental vehicles (bike sharing, car sharing, scooter sharing) or recommendations for Park & Ride. The app searches for the optimal combination options, in many cases in real time. Particularly helpful in the case of frequency or connection gaps. The number of mobility services taken into account is continuously being expanded.
Practical: Fares and matching tickets are automatically displayed for every public transport connection in the network area. The right ticket can thus be conveniently purchased directly from the timetable information as an MVV HandyTicket and paid for - e.g. with Google Pay or Apple Pay.

After confirming the payment, the ticket can be accessed directly in the app. The purchase amount will be debited.
