CONS

Frequent glitches affecting ticket purchase

Misleading results when using current location

Lack of offline route planning capability

Complicated sign-up process

Inaccurate reporting of train delays and cancellations

Poor payment processing reliability

Confusing user interface for adding traveler names

Limited customer support options within the app

Abandonment of updates leading to outdated features

Regardless of whether you choose to travel by train, subway, or bus, using the 'München navigator' allows you to purchase tickets on your mobile device for all modes of transportation within Munich (MVV). Simply buy your ticket and you're ready to go—conveniently and without hassle! Additionally, the app provides real-time updates regarding any disruptions in service.

How does it operate?

Purchase tickets directly via the app

You can navigate throughout Munich and acquire a ticket through the app—all types of tickets are available including single journeys, day passes, airport-city day tickets, city tour tickets, day passes for bicycles, or the IsarCard. For travel within Bavaria, the Bayern-Ticket is also available. Payment methods include credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex), PayPal, or bank transfer if you are registered.

Integrated information from the Munich timetable (MVV)

The timetable feature provides details on connections and locations in Munich. It offers convenience similar to that of the German Railway (DB) navigator. You can save valuable information as 'favourites'.

Subscription portal

You have access to log into the subscription portal to manage your subscription and customer information independently. If you possess an eTicket, you can view it and check what data is linked to it. A smartphone with NFC capability is required for this function.

Check the upcoming trains at your station

An overview of all trains at your current station is available, allowing you to monitor any delays.

Service disruptions

Information will be provided in case of unexpected timetable alterations.

Confirm your current location

If you’re unfamiliar with Munich, the app helps you determine your current location and shows you the nearest bus stops or stations to reach your intended destination.

Subscription alert function (delay notifications)

This feature notifies you of any delays through the 'press' function.

DB car sharing and bicycle rental options

Upon reaching your destination, the DB 'car sharing' or 'call a bike' finder will guide you to the closest DB car or bike station.

Live map for local trains

You can utilize the map to find out the current status of your train or any potential delays.

S-Bahn live tracking with the Munich Navigator app

A typical morning: hectic. On the way to the S-Bahn. Another pretzel from the bakery? Oh no, time's running out! So, never mind! Just to be on the safe side, head straight to the station. Then, at the display board, the realization: delay. Great, now we could have had breakfast after all... Such situations are a thing of the past with the Munich Navigator app. Thanks to GPS live tracking, it offers a live map with reliable real-time information. This way, everyone can not only see exactly where their S-Bahn is at any time, but also whether they should expect disruptions, cancellations, or delays. And much more!

Track every S-Bahn via GPS

This way, everyone knows where their S-Bahn is. In the live map, each vehicle is displayed as a circle in the line color. The circles move in real time on the virtual map, and arrows indicate the direction of travel. This makes it easy to see where all S-Bahn trains currently in service are located. Current disruptions and information from the route agent are displayed below the map and the station departure board.

Virtual Departure Board: Changing trains has never been so easy!

By clicking on the desired station in the live map, the corresponding departure board appears below. This shows the next available services (with minutes) at the respective platforms, as well as the train length. Currently arriving S-Bahn trains are displayed with a small train instead of the minutes. A small symbol with a person boarding and green arrows indicates that the doors of this S-Bahn are currently open, allowing boarding or disembarking. When the doors close, the symbol disappears, and the next train appears at the top of the departure board.

Customize the app? Possible!

The app includes timetable information for the entire MVV (including buses, trams, and subways). Saving personal connections also allows every passenger to use the app quickly and easily. The best part: If you wish, you can receive push notifications to be immediately informed about any disruptions on your route, schedule deviations due to construction work, etc. Extremely practical, right?!

The all-round app

But there are even more exciting and useful features in the Munich Navigator app. In the integrated ticket shop, passengers can buy MVV tickets online and download all kinds of network and fare maps. Location detection makes it easy to find the next connection in your area. Those who prefer to pedal instead of using public transport can locate their nearest Call a Bike with the "Call a Bike Finder."

A look into the future

Wieland, the project manager for the Munich Navigator app, has even more innovations in store. For example, he wants to expand the application to include an incident map. This will also display construction sites and potential delays due to incidents in real time, just like the ceiling screens in the S-Bahn. Another extremely practical feature has already been implemented in the app, especially for parents with strollers or wheelchair users: the elevator status is displayed at each station – this saves unnecessary trips and therefore time. All in all, GPS live tracking is a fantastic innovation and just one of the many ways the Munich S-Bahn wants to make its passengers' daily commutes even more pleasant in the future. The Munich Navigator is a pioneer and provides more timely information about current travel options than any comparable app. Incidentally, it's available on any smartphone, free of charge, and you don't even have to register. So: simply download it and start tracking your S-Bahn!

The real-time tracking impresses. The idea of getting more details about a train while it moves sounds fantastic. Definitely deserving of five stars!

The app runs smoothly, but it lacks real-time updates. This makes it not very helpful.

This app offers great features, but it can be tricky to navigate, especially for beginners. Some parts of the interface feel confusing. It takes a bit of time to figure things out. Despite that, once you get the hang of it, the app can really come in handy. A little guidance or clearer instructions would make a big difference for users who are just starting out.

It looks like there’s an issue with your request. The stations you entered seem to be the same or listed multiple times. Please adjust your request and try again.

The app runs smoothly when picking a station for departure. Choosing the current location can lead to mixed results. It can be confusing at times.

The recent update with the green color scheme really messed up the ticket buying feature. Such a letdown! Apart from that, the app is fantastic.

Usually spot-on with the information. Buying tickets can be a bit challenging at times.

I had a frustrating time with my old phone. Tried to add a new credit card, but I kept getting an error message that said "This website can't be found." I needed to add a new card because the old one wouldn’t let me update the expiry date. I switched to a new phone, and everything worked perfectly. Still, it feels off that a public transport app requires the latest technology to function properly.

It was once amazing. Now there are constant problems. Best to steer clear.
