Mozilla Manifesto Amendment

Pledge to Defend

A Healthy Internet

An open, global Internet is the most powerful communication and collaboration tool we have ever seen. It taps into the deepest desires of human development and opens new opportunities for learning, building a common humanity, and solving the pressing problems facing people around the world.

Over the past decade, we have seen this promise fulfilled in many ways; we have also seen the power of the Internet used to widen divisions, incite violence, spread hatred, and manipulate the truth. We recognize that we should more clearly articulate our vision for the human experience on the Internet. That is what we are doing now.

We pledge to make the Internet inclusive of everyone on the planet - regardless of age, gender, race, nationality, education, wealth, or other demographic characteristics, with equal rights, opportunities, and the quality of experience and access to the Internet. We pledge to make the Internet promote civil discourse, human dignity, and individual expression. We pledge to make the Internet inspire critical thinking, reasoned arguments, shared knowledge, and truth that withstands scrutiny. We pledge to make the Internet a catalyst for diverse communities to work together for the common good.

Our Ten Principles

Principle 1

The Internet is an integral part of modern life and a key component of education, communication, collaboration, business, entertainment, and society in general.

Principle 2

The Internet is a global public resource and must remain open and accessible.

Principle 3

The Internet will enrich human life.

Principle 4

User security and privacy protection on the Internet are fundamental requirements and cannot be ignored.

Principle 5

Internet users must be able to shape the Internet and their experience in accordance with their own wishes.

Principle 6

The effectiveness of the Internet as a public resource depends on innovation in information exchange (network protocols, data formats, content) and the voluntary participation of users around the world.

Principle 7

Free and open source software contributes to the continued development of the Internet as a public resource.

Principle 8

Transparent community-based processes promote participation, responsibility, and trust.

Principle 9

There are many advantages to commercial participation in the development of the Internet. It is important to maintain a balance between commercial interests and the public interest.

Principle 10

Extending the public benefit dimension of the Internet is a goal that is important enough to merit our time, energy, and commitment.

I can't believe they just canceled my subscription right in the middle of the month. Out of nowhere, they expect me to pay double if I want it back. No warning or heads up at all. It's really frustrating and feels so greedy.

I've been using it for two weeks now. The speed is impressive, and it works well on all my devices. I love that it doesn't drain the battery much. Plus, it's a great value for what you get. Mozilla stands out as one of the few reliable companies when it comes to user data privacy, which adds extra peace of mind with their VPN. I highly recommend it!

People seem to rate this VPN low, and I just don’t get it. It’s run by Mullvad, and it works great for me. No problems at all. Sure, it might not play well with things like Android Auto or routers, but it’s not mining my data or storing information like some other VPNs do. It feels solid and secure. Isn’t that what really matters with a VPN?

Using the app is simple with its one-tap function and it offers many locations. Thanks for that! However, on January 29, 2021, I noticed the app can no longer run in the background. It only works when opened, and I prefer not to keep it open all the time. On January 30, 2021, Mozilla support confirmed this change was intentional with their latest update. This news is disappointing. Now, I will search for other options.

This VPN app missed the mark entirely. I used Brave VPN before, and it worked perfectly at work, university, and home with the MacOS firewall on. This new one only works when I turn the firewall off and only at home. I reached out to support several times, but no response. I requested a refund, and they directed me to Google Play Store. The Play Store couldn't help either, leaving me feeling frustrated. I think I lost my money, and you might too. Consider this before making a purchase.

The experience has been a mix of positives and challenges. When it works, it's great. But it struggles with signing in on certain networks. Sometimes it signs in but won't connect. Occasionally, the app bugs out completely. I try to initiate the connection, but nothing happens. Closing and reopening the app often does the trick. I understand this service is fairly new in Germany, so issues can pop up. However, paying 10€ a month for a service that feels half-functional seems pricey. I plan to revisit in a few months and see if things improve. I'm hopeful because I trust Mozilla and want to make this work.
