UNDERSTANDING TELECONSULTATION
A teleconsultation functions similarly to a traditional visit:
- Schedule your appointment directly through the Maiia app.
- On the designated day, log in a few minutes prior to your appointment and wait for the doctor to start the consultation.
- After the teleconsultation, the physician can issue a prescription that will be immediately available in the application.
WHEN TO DOWNLOAD?
The doctor you are consulting will inform you about the procedures for conducting the teleconsultation (reasons for visits, etc.).
Here are some common issues addressed by specialty:
Generalist: Prescription renewals, headaches, fever, flu, stomach pain, migraines, food poisoning, colds, rhinitis, allergies, cholesterol.
Cardiologist: High blood pressure management, blood tests, biological analysis, treatment renewal.
Gynecologist: Pill renewals, contraception, pregnancy-related concerns, breast cancer, painful menstruation, urinary tract infections, STDs, menopause, childbirth.
Pediatrician: Vaccinations, allergies, ear infections, sore throats, chickenpox, fever, digestive issues, diarrhea, chronic illness management.
IS TELECONSULTATION ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT?
To qualify for reimbursement, the teleconsultation must adhere to the coordinated care guidelines set forth by Health Insurance:
- You should have had at least one in-person consultation with that practitioner (at their office, your home, or a medical facility) within the last 12 months before the teleconsultation
- Your attending physician needs to refer you to the teleconsulting doctor if they are not your primary physician.
There are exceptions for:
- Accessing specialists without prior appointments in certain fields (like gynecology, ophthalmology, stomatology, oral surgery, psychiatry, and pediatrics)
- Patients under 16 years of age
- Emergency situations
- Patients without a primary care doctor.
A teleconsultation is charged at the same rate as an in-person visit, varying by specialty and the practice area of the teleconsultant, with coverage from Health Insurance up to 70%.
Additionally, third-party billing applies for:
- Individuals with chronic conditions
- Expecting mothers
- Individuals eligible for supplementary health assistance or similar programs.
For other patients, third-party billing may be offered at the discretion of the healthcare provider.
