Casio Wins iF Design Award 2025 in Germany
March 13, 2025
Tokyo, March 13, 2025 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announced today that two of its timepieces have been named winners of the internationally renowned iF Design Award 2025.
The iF Design Award is a prestigious international recognition of design excellence organized each year by iF International Forum Design GmbH, which is based in Hannover, Germany. This year, 131 design experts carefully selected the winners from among approximately 11,000 submissions representing 66 countries and regions. Two Casio products won the iF Design Award in 2025.
Award Winners
■G-SHOCK RANGEMAN GPR-H1000
Of all the tough G-SHOCK shock-resistant watches, the RANGEMAN is designed to take on the most punishing conditions with its dust- and mud-resistant structure built for survival settings. The GPR-H1000 is equipped with six sensors, including an optical heart rate sensor, as well as built-in GPS functionality, for reliable performance in the harshest natural environments.
Large metal side guards at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions protect against shock and impacts, while oversized mud-resist buttons make it easy for users to operate functions, even in the dark with gloves on. Casio carefully studied user movement and operation flow in real-world conditions to arrive at the optimal form, delivering a new iconic design in this RANGEMAN timepiece.
■G-SHOCK MR-G MRG-B2100
The MRG-B2100 proudly joins the MR-G flagship line of G-SHOCK shock-resistant watches, boasting a dimensional latticework dial inspired by the master craftsmanship of traditional Japanese kigumi* wooden joinery techniques. Crafted with cutting-edge materials, the octagonal bezel alone consists of 27 separate components, each meticulously and individually polished before being assembled in a process as exacting as kigumi woodworking.
* Kigumi is a traditional Japanese construction method and woodworking technique used for wooden joinery without the use of nails or other metal fittings.
Innovation in Design: Taking Shock Resistance to the Limit and Beyond
Ever since the establishment of the brand, G-SHOCK design has been defined by a passion for construction, functionality, and materials, along with a commitment to taking toughness to the limits, and beyond. Innovative technologies and materials have been incorporated into manufacturing processes, as well, guided by revolutionary concepts not seen anywhere else in the timepiece industry.
The original shock-resistant structure, born from a vision of constructing a watch that wouldn’t break even if dropped, is a true example of this. For the G-SHOCK Full Metal line, sophisticated technical approaches and discerning design sensibilities fostered over many years are integrated to develop a new, original shock-resistant construction optimized for metal materials, challenging the limits of shock-resistant performance.
New, original shock-resistant construction for the Full Metal line
G-SHOCK Full Metal design utilizes metal materials for the exterior, while incorporating an original, newly developed shock-resistant construction to satisfy the rigorous G-SHOCK standards of shock resistance. Proprietary cushioning material inserted between the bezel and case gives the structure the toughness needed to protect the module from drops and impacts.
This innovative new structural approach was first devised for a special 18K-gold timepiece created to commemorate 35 years of G-SHOCK. After repeated processes of refining the design for use with stainless steel, success was finally achieved.
Three-pronged structure connects band and watch to disperse shock
While conventional watches use pairs of lugs to connect the case and band, the G-SHOCK Full Metal line employs a three-pronged structure for the connective part of the band to help disperse shock, even with the weight of the case and band’s metal materials. This is a unique and innovative approach for G-SHOCK Full Metal design, devised to disperse shocks to the connecting pipes and minimize the pipes’ curvature.
Dimpling is applied to the stainless steel band to reproduce the iconic design of resin band of the very first G-SHOCK. Fine round holes on the left and right sides of each band link add a sharp look that sets off the stainless steel material beautifully.
5000 line: Maintaining the iconic streamlined form while incorporating a new shock-resistant structure
The revolutionary 5000 line established an innovative pairing of design features, inheriting the iconic streamlined form while incorporating a new shock-resistant construction optimized for metal cases. Starting from scratch, fully reconsidering the internal structure and leveraging original Casio technologies, our developers succeeded in faithfully reproducing the iconic form of the very first G-SHOCK, but now using stainless steel for the case, rather than the original resin.

2100 line: Introducing an original shock-resistant structure designed to protect the LCD
Timepieces in the 2100 line feature another iconic G-SHOCK style that integrates a streamlined, minimalist form with the distinctive octagonal bezel design. While following the 5000 line with the concept of leaving out all extraneous elements and inheriting the essence of its design, the series introduces a newly developed shock-resistant construction for G-SHOCK Full Metal watches that employ Tough Solar powered modules with Bluetooth® connectivity.
Processes of simulation analysis were performed to determine the optimal new structure for protecting the LCD from drops and impacts, while providing support to the module. This led to the discovery that, while the module had previously been reinforced by skeletal components, the optimal approach for the 2100 line would be to support it at just three points. The unique approach born of this conclusion employs a three-pronged structure with protrusions at three points around the module to provide solid protection to the LCD while ensuring levels of shock resistance befitting the G-SHOCK name.
