The Bridgefy App enables users to send offline messages to friends and family within a range of 330 ft (100 m) without requiring an Internet connection, simply by activating the Bluetooth antenna. Bridgefy is specifically designed for situations such as traveling, natural disasters, rural areas, music festivals, sports events, and more.
Users can utilize the Broadcast tab in the app to communicate with other Bridgefy users within the Bluetooth range, particularly during times when internet accessibility is limited. All messages transmitted through the Bridgefy messaging app's mesh networks are encrypted for security. It is important to note that Broadcast messages can be viewed by anyone nearby.
To begin using Bridgefy:
1.Activate Bluetooth on your device
2.Open the Bridgefy app, ensuring you have an initial internet connection (only required the first time it is opened). Grant the app location permissions to use the Bluetooth-based technology.
3.Navigate to the Broadcast tab
4.Initiate message exchanges with individuals within a 330 ft. (100 m) radius from your location
For instructions on initiating a private chat, please consult the FAQ tab.
Users do not need to manually add contacts on Bridgefy, as the app automatically detects other nearby Bridgefy users and facilitates communication through the Broadcast feature.
FAQ
What's the difference between the Bridgefy SDK and the Bridgefy Messaging App?
It might be confusing to hear about both the Bridgefy SDK and the Bridgefy app, but the differences are easy to understand:
Bridgefy SDK
Is for software developers to use
Can’t be installed on your phone
Is software that powers other apps so they can work without Internet
Bridgefy App
Is a mobile app for anybody to use
Can be installed on iOS and Android devices · Is free and can be used right away, so tell all of your friends!
How many devices need to have access to the Internet for a Mesh Network to work?
None! Mesh networks can be 100% offline. Literally all devices can be on airplane mode with Bluetooth on, and they can keep sharing content uninterruptedly. Optionally, developers can choose to implement offline networks or hybrid networks, which do use some devices’ Internet.
What kind of file sizes can you share using Bridgefy SDK?
Bridgefy currently works using Bluetooth Low-Energy and Wi-Fi Direct, which means there is a large range of options regarding packet types. Text, small files, small images, prompts, triggers, locations, and some types of payments are supported. You can also transfer larger files, but the reliability of the network is decreased because they take longer to send. Read more specific information about package sizes on the developer console FAQ after you log in.
What languages and wrappers are compatible with Bridgefy SDK?
We proudly have versions of the Bridgefy SDK for the following:
Android (Kotlin) · iOS (Swift) · React Native (coming soon) · Cordova (coming soon)
