The biblical text used in this application is the Segond 21 version, first launched in 2007 by the Société Biblique de Genève after extensive development spanning 12 years. Its guiding principle? “The original, with today’s words” aims to faithfully represent the wording of the original texts while employing contemporary language fitting for the early 21st century. Offered in over 70 printed editions across varying formats, materials, and colors at different price points to cater to diverse preferences, it frequently ranks among the bestsellers at FNAC and other major retailers, having surpassed 5,000,000 copies sold, establishing itself as the most widely used version in the Francophone world.
FAQ
Do you have a writing project or have you finalized your manuscript? Would you like to be published under one of our labels?
You can send us your text when it's ready, that is, when it's final in your eyes. Ideally, it should be between 20,000 and 50,000 words. It can be emailed to us in Word, RTF, or PDF format to editions@bible.ch.
Please also send us a Word/RTF file containing:
a 5-10-line summary of your work;
4-5 lines of a more promotional-style introduction;
a description of your own background (first and last name, place and date of birth, professional education and status, spiritual commitment, theological training, church affiliation);
the audience you wish to reach;
the message you wish to convey;
Confirmation that you can subscribe to the Declaration of Faith of the Geneva Bible Society: http://www.societebiblique.com/fr/societe-biblique-de-geneve/declaration-de-foi.
Upon receipt of your two files, we will analyze the content, then the potential market and costs. This process may take some time. If you find another publisher while we are still conducting the analysis, we would be grateful if you would let us know as soon as possible.
Once we have decided whether or not to publish the text, we generally offer our partner authors contracts that include the following clauses:
The publisher acquires the rights to publish the work in digital and printed form. Digital form means any format that allows for downloading PDFs, reading or listening on dedicated e-readers and other devices, as well as any other format that technological developments may still allow, whether or not it has added value. Printed form refers to any paper format.
The author receives royalties calculated on the net revenue of works sold (net revenue corresponds to the average selling price, less discounts granted to distributors and booksellers), once a year. The author is entitled to a discount from the retail price from the publisher when purchasing copies of the printed edition, for their own distribution to individuals only (discount communicated in your contract).
We can also offer a contract on an author's account. In this case, we provide a quote for proofreading, cover art, and layout costs, in particular, and we increase the royalty rate so that the author can be reimbursed somewhat over time.
For questions related to rights and digital editions, biblical texts quoted verbatim must be in the Segond 21 version, possibly NEG 1979 (exceptions should be discussed with the publisher). The publisher's choice of La Maison de la Bible, Ourania, or Scripsi label is determined by the publisher based on internal criteria.
This information will help you understand the process and what proposals you can expect when you submit your manuscript to us.
Would you like to sell your books in our La Maison de la Bible bookstores and be visible on our website?
If you have self-published your book (i.e., without going through a publisher), and you would like to make your works available in La Maison de la Bible bookstores, please contact the managers of our bookstores and enter into a sales agreement with them (contact details below).
Are you a publisher looking for a distributor in France and/or Switzerland?
If so, please send us a list of the titles in your collection. We may then ask you to send us the individual manuscripts to the following address: diffusion@bible.ch.
Upon receipt of these documents, we will review your request and respond within one month.
