Searching for Items on bn.com

To see if an item is available on bn.com, simply search the title, author, or item number in the Search bar at the top of most pages on the site and click the item in the search results list that appears. If the item is available to ship, click the Add to Cart button and complete your purchase when ready.

To see if the item is available in your local store, click the Find in Stores or Pick Up in Store button on the Product Page and set your location to show stores that are currently carrying the item. You can even buy or reserve the item online to pick it up in store.

Note: Items available for pre-order will not be available for Store Pickup until the release date. 

Sweepstakes Offers on bn.com

To promote upcoming releases and encourage pre-orders, publishers will run sweepstakes offers where customers who pre-order the promoted title are automatically entered to win a prize package provided by the publisher.  

Prizes vary from signed editions of the book, gift cards to Barnes & Noble and/or other retailers, gift sets, exclusive merchandise related to the book/series, with some even offering trips or cash prizes. Prize packages vary for each offer and some may offer more than others.  

Entering a Sweepstakes 

You are automatically entered into a sweepstakes offer when you pre-order the designated format(s) of a title, or by sending a postcard with the sweepstakes name to our home office.

If you are the lucky winner of one of the sweepstakes run on bn.com, a representative from Barnes & Noble will reach out to you via email to let you know you’ve won and confirm the best way to get your prizes to you. The email will be sent to you from a bn.com email address (Example: JLastname@bn.com).  

Updating Payment for Your Order

When you place an order, we will only bill your payment method once the item(s) ship from our warehouses. At times, we may experience a problem processing your payment that will require you to provide a new credit/debit card. If this occurs, we will email you regarding a “Payment Update” or “Outstanding Balance” for your order. A link is provided in that email to update your payment.

Follow the below instructions to complete this update:

Click the link to update payment. This will open a form informing you of the balance and the item(s) in the order

Click the Pay Now button at the bottom of the form

Enter the billing address, even if it is the same as the previous address used

Add the card details (name on card, card number, expiration date, CVV)

Click the Submit button to complete the update. A message will appear to confirm if the update was successful

If you receive an error message, you may need to try a different credit/debit card

The link in the email is only active for seven days. If we do not receive updated payment information from you within those seven days, your order will be canceled. Clicking the link after the seven day window has passed will only provide a message advising you of the cancelation.

With this process, you will only update the payment applied to the order referenced in the email. If you have a bn.com account, you will need to update the saved payment methods in the account so this does not occur on future orders.  

Cancel an Order

Canceling an Order or Item Purchased on BN.com: All Physical Products

In the interest of processing your order as quickly as possible, there is only a brief window of time where you will be able to modify or cancel your order after it has been placed. Our fulfillment system will continue to process the order as you attempt to modify it, which may result in your changes not being applied. 

To review an order and determine if any of the items can be canceled:

   1.  Click here to access the "My Account" page.

   2.  Enter the email address and order number in the Order History box, then click Find.

   3.  If a Cancel link appears in the Status field, click the Cancel link, fill in the checkbox of all items to be cancelled, and select a Reason for each.

   4.  Click Cancel Checked Items to finalize the cancellation.

   5.  We will send an email notifying you if the cancellation was successful.

Canceling eBook Orders

eBook orders placed on bn.com may be cancelable for a brief period of time after the order is placed. Click here for more information. eBooks ordered on a NOOK Device cannot be canceled or refunded.  If you have technical difficulty with a product, please contact NOOK Support.

Canceling Orders for Downloadable PDFs from SparkNotes and Quamut

Once the PDF is available for SparkNotes or Quamut products, the order cannot be canceled. Downloadable PDFs are also non-returnable.  All PDF sales are final.
