How to See Twitter View Count?

If your Twitter timeline resembles mine, you've likely seen a surge of tweets discussing this new feature. Like most things on Twitter, especially in recent times, it appears highly controversial. Here’s all we know so far about Twitter's new View Count feature.

What Is Twitter View Count

According to Elon Musk's tweet, this new feature aims to provide a more accurate reflection of a tweet's reach. Likes and replies don't paint the full picture, as most users scroll through their feeds without engaging with most content.

In theory, the View Count feature offers a broader perspective. Twitter defines "Views" as "the number of times a tweet was seen on the platform."

Despite this definition, confusion remains over whether View Count tracks actual views or merely impressions—and the two aren’t synonymous.

View counts typically measure instances where users engage with content for a "meaningful" duration (often a few seconds or more), while impressions count every time content appears on a user’s feed—including instances where users scroll past without pausing.

For now, it’s unclear if this metric truly measures time spent on a post or simply makes public the impression data already available in private account analytics.

How to See Twitter View Count

While the feature rollout is ongoing, if you have access to View Count, it’s easy to find. Similar to Retweets, Quote Tweets, and Likes, Views appear directly beneath a Tweet—no settings to toggle or extra buttons to click.

For now, the new stat is all the way to the left, right next to comments. The icon looks like a little graph. In fact, this is the same icon you'll see on your own Tweets in order to access your private analytics metrics. This is true on both desktop and mobile.

When you click on the Tweet to see the thread and replies beneath it, you'll see an expanded version of the stats. In this expanded version, Views and Likes are side-by-side, giving an immediate comparison.

Why Can't I See Twitter View Count

If you’ve seen countless tweets complaining about the new View Count but can’t figure out what they’re talking about because your Twitter interface looks unchanged, don’t worry. As of now, the feature remains in beta and hasn’t been rolled out to all users across all platforms.

This means access to View Count varies based on your account and device (desktop vs. mobile). For instance, during my research, I could see View Count on mobile but not on desktop—even while logged into the same account.

I also encountered a quirky bug in the mobile app.

View Count was only visible on my mobile device the first time I opened the Twitter app after downloading it. When I exited and reopened the app, the View Count disappeared—meaning I had to delete and redownload the app each time to access the feature again.

Such bugs are likely to be ironed out as developers finalize the feature's design and functionality, and complete its rollout to all Twitter users.

Is Twitter View Count Accurate

It has recently emerged that Twitter's View Count feature has significant accuracy issues.

For proof of its inaccuracy: Journalist Taylor Lorenz shared a thread showing that tweets posted on a private, followerless account garnered over 200 "views" within minutes. One tweet posted less than a minute ago had 59 views—impossible for a locked account with zero followers.

So why the discrepancy? Theories suggest private accounts might be compromised, or Twitter counts the user's own view of the tweet as a metric. Lorenz speculates improper coding is triggering internal events as "views," mistaking backend processes for actual user engagement.

If that's the case, the View Count metric loses much of its meaning.

On the one hand, it might ease the sting if 872 people saw your joke but only two liked it. On the other, it's problematic for anyone relying on this data to shape social media strategies.

Twitter could potentially fix these issues, but given the platform's recent track record, a quick resolution seems unlikely.
