ENERGY. BUT SMART.
Tibber transcends the traditional role of an energy provider! In addition to our hourly-based electricity plan, our application offers valuable insights, innovative functionalities, and intelligent integrations. Tibber serves as your guide, facilitating effortless reduction and management of your electricity usage.
EVERY KWH MATTERS.
The consumption of energy is a significant contributor to global carbon dioxide emissions, and the transition toward electrification is advancing rapidly. However, many energy providers profit more as their customers consume more electricity. We operate differently. In fact, we do not profit from how much energy you use. Our goal is to assist you in lowering your energy consumption, fostering a more sustainable energy marketplace and future.
THIS IS HOW WE DO IT.
Tibber's entire business model centers around smart products, features, and integrations that empower you to reduce and manage your energy use effectively. You can optimize your electricity consumption through intelligent car charging, efficient home heating solutions, or by easily connecting smart devices directly within our application.

Artical--Grid Rewards: Fill your wallet while saving the planet
Feeling the heat of climate change and wondering how you can help? With Grid Rewards, you're not just watching from the sidelines – you’re stepping onto the field as a key player in the mission to power our planet with 100% renewable energy. How? By putting your car and Homevolt home batteries to work balancing the energy grid – and earning some extra cash while you're at it.
Balancing the grid with Tibber's Virtual Power Plant
We only have one Earth, and it’s time to rethink how we generate and consume electricity. Nature generously provides us with abundant energy through the sun and wind, but these incredible power sources are a bit… uncontrollable. After all, we can’t dictate when the wind blows or the sun shines (as much as we’d like to). But this variability throws the energy grid off balance. That's where you come in.
Why does the grid need balancing?
Think of the energy grid like a bathtub. On sunny, windy days, renewable energy gushes in like an open faucet, filling the tub quickly. If too much water pours in, the tub overflows – leading to an overloaded grid. This could mean overheated equipment, power outages, or even infrastructure damage. On the flip side, during cloudy or windless days, the flow slows to a trickle, and the tub starts to drain. That's when we face energy shortages and potential blackouts. Traditionally, we’ve fired up fossil fuel plants to fill the gap – padding the pockets of those companies, and pumping carbon emissions into the atmosphere. So, if we want more renewable energy and a faster transition to clean power, we need a better way to keep the grid balanced.
Enter Tibber's Virtual Power Plant
To address this challenge, Tibber has created the biggest Virtual Power Plant (VPP) in Europe, uniting thousands of home and car batteries to help grid operators balance supply and demand. This teamwork turns renewable energy from an “intermittent” source into a “dispatchable” one – much like a traditional power plant (without the pollution). The pool of batteries in the VPP collectively store excess energy when demand is low, and pause charging or even discharge energy back to the grid when demand is high. The more folks who join in, the less we rely on fossil fuels, and the greener our grid becomes.
Earn money as an energy hero
Every time your car or Homevolt pitches in to balance the grid, you earn money. How's that for a win-win? Tibber gets paid by helping grid operators, and we pass those earnings on to you through Grid Rewards.
How it works with your electric car
Your EV isn't just for getting you from A to B; it's also a grid-balancing energy hero like you.
• Charges during surplus: When renewable energy is abundant, your car charges up to make use of that excess energy.
• Pauses charging during high demand: When the grid is under pressure, charging temporarily pauses to help ease the strain.
How it works with your Homevolt battery The Homevolt battery takes things to the next level.
• Stores energy: Like your car, it charges when renewable energy is plentiful, storing excess power.
• Discharges energy: Unlike your car, Homevolt can discharge (mostly renewable) energy back into the grid when it's needed most.
With Grid Rewards, the money you earn is saved as credits in your Tibber account, reducing your energy bill all year round. But it’s more than just savings – you're actively propelling the shift to renewable energy, and making a real impact in the fight against climate change.
Be part of the solution
Massive infrastructure projects are in the works, but with Grid Rewards, we can make a difference right now—without giving up any comfort or convenience. Whether through your EV, your Homevolt battery, or both, you have the power to tackle today's energy challenges.
Your efforts extend far beyond your own home. By enhancing the reliability of renewables and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, you're directly cutting carbon emissions. Together, we're speeding up the transition to clean energy – and when even more join in, the ripple effect pushes us closer to a fossil-free future.
Batteries are just the beginning – heating systems will join the party soon. That greener future we've been dreaming about? It's starting to peek over the horizon. And it all starts with you.
NEWS
Tibber 8 years – let's update & celebrate
We are celebrating 8 years of making you and your energy management smarter. More than pausing for some reflection at this juncture, we figured the appropriate way to honor this festive moment is to share a gift with the most important people we know – you and our beautiful community!
The Tibber app has been evolving exponentially as we’ve grown together, but one thing has always been at the obvious center, safely guiding you through your energy needs. The home screen. Since we rolled out this iconic and often copied (Thanks for the compliment!) start page of our app in 2017, its purpose has always been to make you feel in control.
It’s designed to present the most valuable information, in a simple way, giving you precisely what you expect upon every visit. With the addition of Power-Ups and further personalisation (Hey that’s my house!) to meet your specific preferences, the natural home of the Tibber experience has served its purpose magnificently over time.
However. There have been pain points. We know it, and perhaps you do too. Let’s do something about them shall we, and sprinkle some design magic on top while doing it! Relax AND be excited – the new experience will feel familiar, but it’s rebuilt and refreshed exactly where it matters to specifically achieve these four things:
Ease of use – Smooth learning curve and quick decoding
Visual smartness – New design system
Relevant information – Updated information hierarchy
Personalisation – New home avatars and customisation
We’re extremely proud of our new home screen, and we think you’ll love it too. With that, thanks for the last 8 years – you are the best. Here’s to many more together!

FAQS
What exactly is Smart Charging?
Let's break it down: Picture yourself scoring cheaper energy prices during those delightful wee hours when most sane folks are sound asleep. Sounds like a dream, huh? Well, that's Smart Charging for you! No more sneaking out in your PJs and bunny slippers to plug in your EV – we've got your back! But hold onto your charging cable, because Tibber's latest version of Smart Charging isn't just about convenience – it's about putting the power back in your hands (or wheels, rather). We're talking more insights, more control, and more fun than a rollercoaster ride through the energy market!
What’s the difference for me as a customer and will I notice it?
The main difference for you as a customer is if you have an integrated charger – a Zaptec, Wallbox or easee that is. Before, you would handle all of the settings in the Power-up of your charger. Now, everything is set up in the Power-up of your car. This is whether you have an integrated, or a non-integrated car.
If I have a non-integrated car, can I still Smart Charge my EV?
In our opinion, Smart Charging should be available to everyone. There are two types of cars in our app, integrated and non-integrated. An integrated car means that we can communicate directly with the car's data and battery level. A "non-integrated” car means that we can't communicate directly with your car, but you can still Smart Charge.
– If you have a non-integrated car, a car that we cannot communicate with directly, we manage the charging via a Power-up for non-integrated cars. There you can tell us how much you want your battery to charge, when you want the car to be ready and what the battery level is right now. However, to be able to Smart Charge your non-integrated car, you need an integrated charger, Tobias explains.
Bottom line, if you have a non-integrated car, you can still charge your car smart, but you need an integrated charging box (Zaptec, Wallbox or easee, more coming soon). In the app, select a non-integrated car from all the smart Power-ups, and add your charger. All of the Smart Charging settings are managed through the car's Power-up.
I’ve had problems in the past with my car starting to charge when I plug in the car, why does this happen?
Do you have an integrated car without an integrated charging box? Then this might be the answer. We love talking to your car, and we wish we could do it more often. Right now, we communicate with your car every 15 minutes. So if you plug in your car and you see the charging session starting, there's no need to panic. We'll talk to your car shortly (within 15 minutes) and ask it to hold off on charging until the cheapest hours have arrived. A small reminder, if your car's current battery is lower than the minimum in the app, the car will always be charged right away until it reaches your minimum battery level.
Comments
I started using this app over a year ago because it promised to save me money on my electricity bill. While it does a good job of showing you electricity rates, it's only a small part of your electricity bill. There are two other very important fees, the grid fee and the average daily load fee, which for some reason Tibber does not include. These two fees can account for as much as 80% of your electricity bill. The grid fee depends on the time of day you use electricity. Regular rate will be between 06-22 and night rate will be between 22-06. If you want to easily save 30-40% on your electricity bill, you should pay attention to your average daily load (the capacity rate). This rate is divided into several price levels. The three hours with the highest concurrent usage during the month are important in determining which tier you end up in each month.
Finally, got rid of my malfunctioning Wall Box car charger and swapped it to a nice Zapotec with Tibber Pulse for load balancing over 3 phases. Nice looking app, and Tibber Pulse setup was simple. Recommended! What I miss: - Load balancing is ON, but it would really be great to see when load balancing is actually (log file) acting and redirecting - Is it possible to add a car (Audi eTron) without having a tibber contract for power? - En phase/Envoy integration for solar panels with micro-convertors
The application fills it purpose and if you buy extra applications for measure or smart features at home from their site, they also are seen in the application. I use daily, the future, where you can follow the price of electricity / hour. This means you can set your smart home to warm up or use other applications when the prices are lower. So applications is smart, easy to use. And works good. I am very satisfied
Setting up tibber pulse, and other power ups failed several times before I got it to work. Smart charging the car is useless for my case since I have a plug-in hybrid and small battery. App starts charging my car right away even if the power price is very high. They say it takes ca 20 min for the app to get enough data to charge when it is cheap, and in this 20 min my car has been charging in high price power! Does the app do this every time? If yes, then this can not be called smart charging!
Unstable app. Customer support offers no compensation for weeks-long broken functionality (notable; randomly being logged out, app not loading messages/prices), while they are quick to shift blame to external API's (Mill) for the described issue. App issues persisted even after removing "power-ups"/external API's, reinstalling and performing a full factory reset of my device. Considering I've been left on "read" by customer support, and them taking payment for a defective "product"; 1 star.
