Kicking off the 2026 NHRA Season at the NHRA Gatornationals
NHRA racers and fans kicked off the 75th Anniversary Mission Foods NHRA Drag Racing season as the Amalie Motor Oil Gatornationals rolled into Gainesville Raceway in northern Florida. A capacity crowd packed the stands and the nitromethane, alcohol, and high-octane gasoline was flowing.
The Gatornationals always draws a global audience, including competitors, fans and even media. And Team Summit was ready to go with a stacked list of racers flying the Summit Racing Equipment red, white and blue.

There buildup for the opener was wild as the silly season created shake-ups in the professional ranks. Local racer Josh Hart moved from team owner and driver to the John Force Racing Top Fueler vacated by Brittany Force; Leah Pruett returned to the seat of her Dodge dragster, while her husband, two-time NASCAR Cup champion Tony Stewart is now racing for Elite’s new effort.
The most noteworthy change was Funny Car world champion Austin Prock, who, along with his father and brother, left John Force Racing to begin a campaign at Tasca Racing. This created quite a buzz, which grew stronger when the reigning champ failed to qualify for the Gatornationals.
The Tasca team had been experiencing early season struggles, and hot track conditions on Friday and Saturday put them to the test. Prock was only able to muster a 4.83, which was not enough to better John Smith’s 4.18 bump spot. The tough conditions were also evident In Pro Stock; with many teams aborting runs due to tire shake. In fact, it took Greg Anderson four tries before he was able to crack into the 16-car field.

Four-time Top Fuel world champion Antron Brown got off to a great start winning the Right Trailers All-Star Callout on Saturday, defeating fellow Summit Racing driver Clay Millican for the belt. In doing so, Brown became the first two-time winner of the Callout, going 4.290-seconds at 258.76 mph in his Summit Racing Equipment/Matco Tools dragster. Brown pocketed an $80,000 bonus for the victory.
“Clay was right there and I got spoiled today,” said Antron Brown. “I pedaled a little bit, and we were able to get it done. It’s super exciting for us because in the offseason, we regrouped after last year and we want to revamp our program.”

Like Brown, Cody Anderson, son of Greg, made four clean laps and qualified solidly for his first-ever Pro Stock race. The young Anderson ran 6.556 at 209.88 mph to earn the 12th spot. Greg was right behind him in 13th, while Matt Hartford, Matt Latino, Deric Kramer held the 2-4 spots respectively.
Three Summit Racing-backed Pro Stock drivers made it to the semi-finals, where Hartford faced reigning champion Dallas Glenn and Greg Anderson was matched with Erica Enders. Hartford grabbed a holeshot and ran 6.576, while Glenn shut off early in the run. Anderson was able to beat Enders off the line and outran her going 6.571 to her 6.602.

This set up the all-Summit Racing Equipment/KB Titan final. Anderson was the favorite and he left first delivering a slight holeshot, but Hartford wasn’t far behind (.041 to .053) and his KB Titan engine powered him past Anderson for the win. Hartford ran 6.530 to beat Anderson’s 6.562.
“We were sitting having dinner the other night, and we were saying we need to get one of these Diamond Wallys and not one of them—we need to stack them up, and the best way to do that is to start with the first one,” Hartford said. “To get the first one in Pro Stock is incredible. This is going to be the most grueling Pro Stock season that I think you guys in the media have ever seen. The caliber of the drivers who are out there right now are over the top. It’s just so competitive from all the camps right now. You make one mistake, you’re not qualifying.”

In Funny Car Chad Green pulled off a repeat Gators win and Richard Gadson took top honors in Pro Stock Motorcycle on his Vance & Hines mount.
Not to be overshadowed by all the excitement, Josh Hart, of nearby Ocala, Florida, set the track speed record on Friday with a 3.733-second run at 337.83 mph in his Burnyzz/Speedmaster dragster. Hart made it to the final in his debut for JFR where he defeated two-time champ Doug Kalitta. This was the third career win for Hart and first in nearly five years.
“I’m so grateful for everybody,” Hart said. “I got the crap kicked out of me for four years and I’m having a hard time believing this is happening. I have so many people to thank and there was so much energy from these fans today. John Force, thank you for picking me. We crushed every record that I have had in my career, all in the first weekend with John Force Racing. Those guys are awesome. The most professional team I’ve ever been a part of, and communication is second to none. I just want to say thank you to John Force and Brittany Force for even considering me, let alone picking me to take that seat, and I’ll get more comfortable, and we’ll win more races.”

In addition to the great Pro action, sportsman drivers in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing series took to the track as well.
Notable winners were Dan Fletcher, who captured his 109th national event win in his familiar 1969 Super Stock Camaro, a car his father purchased new and is recognized as the most winning car in drag racing history.
And Kelly Kundratic earned her first national event win in Super Comp, and at the same time, notched the 400th NHRA national event win by a female driver.
