Accident involving an electric transport device
1. What do I do if I had an accident with an electric transportation device?
Help anyone who is injured at the site of the accident and collect the contact information of the parties.
Check the vehicle identification number of the electric personal transportation device. The vehicle identification number is usually on the body of the device and in the paperwork received with the device.
Take photographs of the site of the accident to verify its exact location, if possible.
Find out who owns the electric personal transportation device.
2. With what insurance policy do I file the claim for compensation?
The loss or damage can be covered under the following insurance policies (the list is not comprehensive): motor liability insurance, leisure-time accident insurance, an employer’s statutory workers’ compensation insurance, home insurance, travel insurance, or comprehensive motor vehicle insurance.
First check whether the device is covered under motor liability insurance
Motor liability insurance applies to devices with a speed exceeding 25 km/h or a weight over 25 kg.
Motor liability insurance does not apply to electrically assisted bicycles with a rated power of not more than 250 W, or in which the electrical assistance is switched off in a speed of 25 km/h.
All rental electric scooters are covered under motor liability insurance regardless of their weight and speed.
3. How do I report a loss?
As a private customer, you can report the loss directly to your own insurance policy at the op.fi service or on OP-mobile

In case of a company’s insurance, you can file the loss report and claim for compensation at the op.fi service. If the accident took place at work or on the way to or from work, your employer files the loss report.

4. How do I report expenses?
You can report expenses after you have filed the loss report and received the claim code. Expenses can include medication or travel expenses. You can report expenses at the op.fi service or on OP-mobile. Go to Claims and select the claim to which you wish to add expenses.

5. What does motor liability insurance cover?
Personal injuries caused by a road accident, such as medical treatment expenses, lost earnings and handicap benefits.
Damage to the innocent party’s vehicle and property damage caused for outsiders.
Motor liability insurance is different for rental electric scooters: For the driver, motor liability insurance covers only medical treatment expenses.
6. What does the voluntary comprehensive motor vehicle insurance cover?
Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance covers loss or damage caused to your own vehicle. The more coverage the comprehensive motor vehicle insurance has, the more extensively it will cover different types of losses. Depending on the extent of the insurance cover, comprehensive motor vehicle insurance can also cover losses due to vandalism and theft.
