FAQ
Does the Qur'an in the NU Online Super App Use Rasm Uthmani?
The Qur'an manuscript in the NU Online Super App refers to the Qur'an published by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. Like most Qur'ans in the world, this manuscript is based on Rasm Uthmani, only in the Indonesian Standard Mushaf format.
The Indonesian Standard Mushaf is a Qur'an mushaf whose writing, harakat, punctuation and waqf signs have been standardized, in accordance with the results achieved in the Working Conference (Muker) of Al-Qur'an Expert Ulama which lasted 9 years, from 1974 to 1983 and was used as a guideline for the Qur'an published in Indonesia.
The qira'at that became the basis for writing this mushaf is the narration of Hafs bin Sulaiman bin al-Mughirah al-Asadi al-Kufi from Imam Ashim bin Abi an-Najud al-Kufi at-Tabi'i from Abu Abdirrahman Abdillah bin Habib as-Sulami from Usman bin 'Affan, 'Ali bin Abi Thalib, Zaid bin Tasbit and Ubay bin Ka'ab. The chain of narrations is certainly continued to the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
As explained by the LPMQ (Lajnah Pentashihan Mushaf Al-Qur'an) of the Indonesian Ministry of Religion, many people misunderstand the scope of Rasm Utsmani. They assume that Rasm Utsmani includes complete verses with harakat and punctuation, as written in the Medina Mushaf. As a result, they consider that apart from the Medina Mushaf, including the Indonesian Mushaf, they do not use Rasm Utsmani.
In fact, Rasm Utsmani does not consist of only one version. In Rasm Uthmani there are two main narrations, the narration of ad-Dani and the narration of Abu Dawud, which is known as ash-Syaikhani fi 'Ilmir Rasmil 'Uthmani (the two masters of the knowledge of Rasm Uthmani).
In general, printed Qur'ans circulating throughout the world today are written using Rasm Uthmani by choosing one of the two narrations, Ad-Dani or Abu Dawud. The Indonesian Qur'an, Libyan Qur'an, Bombay Qur'an, and Iranian Qur'an follow Ad-Dani's narration. Meanwhile, the Medina Qur'an, Egyptian Qur'an, and Qur'ans of other countries refer to both.
So, the Qur'an manuscript in the NU Online application uses Rasm Uthmani as the Qur'an that is currently circulating in the world. Rasm Uthmani in question covers only the body of the verse, without dots, without harakat, or without any punctuation, such as the writing in the era of Sayyidina Utsman bin Affan through a team led by Zaid bin Tsabit. Regarding the way of writing harakat, punctuation, and waqf signs, he is guided by the standard rules resulting from the Working Conference (Muker) of Al-Qur'an Expert Ulama in 1974-1983. This manuscript is then called the "Indonesian Standard Mushaf".
