Kiwoom Securities Launches New MTS 'Hero Moon S#' Offering Comprehensive Services
(Seoul = Yonhap News) - Kiwoom Securities announced on the 19th that it has officially launched its next-generation Mobile Trading System (MTS), 'Hero Moon S#'.
Hero Moon S# is the next version of Kiwoom Securities' existing MTS, Hero Moon S. The new app allows users to perform a range of tasks from account opening to trading domestic and international stocks, financial products, AI (artificial intelligence) asset management, and MyData services, all within a single app.
Additionally, the new features include 'Integrated Watchlist' for viewing both domestic and international stocks at once, and 'Global Ticker' for checking global market quotes on a single screen. The app also upgrades functionalities such as 'Real-Time Condition Search' for spotting stocks that meet user-defined criteria in real-time, and 'Stock Chart' which allows applying user indicators from the Home Trading System (HTS) directly.
The app now also includes a dark mode for easier viewing in low-light environments.
A Kiwoom Securities representative stated, "Hero Moon S# significantly enhances user accessibility by allowing easy investment in both domestic and international stocks and AI asset management through a single app. We focused on a design and user interface that are investor-friendly."
Kiwoom Securities Considering Full Transition to 'Hero Moon S#' and Possible Extension of 'Hero Moon S'
Kiwoom Securities Considering Extension of 'Hero Moon S'
Kiwoom Securities is evaluating whether to extend its existing service, which is set to end today, in response to concerns about customer attrition and strong competition from other firms. The company is currently hesitating about transitioning fully to the new Mobile Trading System (MTS), 'Hero Moon S#'.
As competitors in the MTS market are experiencing rapid growth and in light of the recent Contract for Difference (CFD) scandal, there are worries about customer loss with the discontinuation of the old version, Hero Moon S.
According to Kiwoom Securities, the plan is to transition fully from the old version of Hero Moon S to the new Hero Moon S# by the end of this month. However, if existing customers request an extension, the company is considering the possibility of granting it. Kiwoom Securities has announced that by the end of this month, Hero Moon S will be completely replaced by Hero Moon S#. Nevertheless, the company is open to extending the old version if existing customers make such requests.
Investor Boycott Movement Grows Despite Extension of 'Hero Moon S#'
Last August, Kiwoom Securities launched Hero Moon S#, a new model of Hero Moon S, offering improved features such as 'Condition-based Price Search' and 'AI Asset Management'.
However, the planned termination of the old version in November last year was postponed, and the service discontinuation scheduled for April and May this year was also canceled.
Due to the CFD scandal involving former Daewoo Kiwoom Group Chairman Kim Ik-rae, a boycott movement against Kiwoom Securities has emerged within stock communities. This movement has gained significant traction.
Customer Attrition Risk and Stock Market Drop
The risk of customer attrition has increased as many are reluctant to transition to the new version. This situation has led to a continuation of the old version, causing a market downturn. Recently, a new issue with five stocks hitting their lower price limits has further exacerbated the situation, reminding investors of previous downturns.
The scandal involving Kim Ik-rae has led to a decline in the number of new users of the new version, which had been growing steadily since its launch. As of the latest figures, there are 860,830 users, down from 991,921 on the launch day, representing a drop of approximately 130,000 users.
Compared to last month, the number of new customer accounts has decreased by 10,000 to 70,000.
Worsening Conditions for Individual Investors
The company, which had been rapidly acquiring more than 80,000 new customer accounts monthly, saw its new account numbers fall to 70,000 last month due to the impact of the CFD issue.
According to data from Power Investment, all five stocks hit their lower limits this month, putting individual investors in a difficult situation. The situation worsened as all stocks hit their lower limits this month, with investors facing even greater challenges.
Prosecutor's Investigation into Stock Manipulation Allegations
Prosecutors are investigating allegations that Kang Mo, an operator of an online stock information cafe, manipulated stock prices and gained illegal profits through coordinated trading from January 2020 to last month. The investigation is ongoing, focusing on Kang’s activities within online stock communities.
Similar Methods Used by Kang Mo
Kang Mo’s methods, which involve suspected stock manipulation, are similar to those employed in coordinated trading. As the new MTS platforms continue to grow, Kiwoom Securities is grappling with these challenges.
According to mobile index reports, approximately 2,086,202 people were using Samsung Securities' MTS, mPOP, as of the end of last month.
