Overview

HDHomeRun is Silicondust’s companion viewer that connects to your HDHomeRun tuner over your home network to play broadcast or cable channels on phones, TVs, and computers. Pair it with the HDHomeRun DVR service to browse the guide, set up recordings, and watch your library from any supported device at home. Because the tuner streams to the app, one antenna or CableCARD feed can serve multiple screens without extra set-top boxes. Platform-specific options—like audio passthrough or video processing—help tailor playback. If you want a straightforward way to watch and record live TV across devices, this app ties the system together.

The official app connects seamlessly with antenna-to-wifi tuners. It shines when exploring channels to add to favorites. Most of the time, I prefer KODI for my viewing needs. The guide is more intuitive there and it avoids the frustration of the favorites filter glitch in this app. One downside emerges when the internet goes down. Any attempt to use the app under those circumstances leads to a frustrating lockup. Thankfully, VLC comes to the rescue. It allows access to the tuner without any fuss. No guide, sure, but it keeps the tuner functioning smoothly.

It works wonderfully. You can connect it with Plex and your home antenna for seamless streaming. It captures all the over-the-air channels, making it easy to watch live TV or record shows. The setup process is straightforward, and everything integrates smoothly. Enjoy watching your favorite programs easily at home!

The app is frustrating to use and full of bugs. It struggles to record college football games properly. The recording schedule shows different teams for each game, but it just records the same game repeatedly. Customer support seems more focused on defending the app instead of addressing the issues. It’s clear that something needs to be fixed because it's not working at all.

The app freezes every day when switching channels on Amazon devices and Android devices, including TV apps. Sometimes, the audio loses sync after about ten minutes. The only way to fix these problems is by restarting the TV or force closing the app. I plan to return the tuner because of the app's performance unless a fix comes out quickly.

HOUSTON...WE HAVE A PROBLEM !!! Today is December 24, 2023. A couple of weeks ago, the app updated. Now it starts up and crashes unexpectedly. When I’m changing channels, it crashes. While watching a show, it crashes too. This app worked fine for over eight months before the update. My devices include a Samsung Tab A (2016), an Amazon Fire Max 11 (13th Gen), and a Samsung Galaxy S23+. I want to revert to the previous version.

Works great on all devices, even the Acer Chromebook. There's just one issue with the ATSC 3.0 channels. The newer h265 HEVC 4K video isn't supported on the older Chromebook. ATSC 1.0 channels play without any problems on it.

The dual model runs without a hitch. I tested a Mohu Leaf antenna and an amplified one. Both did their jobs well, each picking up channels the other missed. In the end, I went with the amplified antenna. Kodi, though, gave me trouble. I downloaded the latest version from GitHub, but it threw an error message saying "tuner is in use."

The app really needs to support multiple networks. I wanted to switch to a different one for better security and performance. Right now, only a few of my devices can access it. Plus, I've had trouble recording more than one show simultaneously. The recordings also come out in a raw format, which takes up way too much space compared to mp4s.

The service delivers exactly what it promises. It provides a great experience. More channels would enhance the streaming selection, especially if they include both over-the-air and online options. That would create a more diverse viewing choice for everyone.

The app wasn’t working on my Android phone. It always performed perfectly before. I checked everything I could think of, feeling stuck and unsure about the issue. Now, it’s running amazingly! It feels like the recent update made some important adjustments. What a relief!
