The free offline German dictionary app explains the meanings of German words! Definitions are sourced from German Wiktionary. This is a monolingual German dictionary, so words must be entered in the German language.

User Guide

Search

The top bar contains the search icon and main menu. By touching the search icon you get the search box and the software keyboard: here you can start to search words.

You can type the symbol ? (question mark) as placeholder for unknown letters.

The symbol * can be used in place of any group of letters.

The fullstop symbol . can be used to mark the end of a word.

    Some search examples with wildcards:

*se. --> it finds words ending with se

re*se. --> it finds words starting with re and ending with se

d??se. --> it finds words starting with d, followed by two unspecified letters and ending with se

??*se. --> it finds words starting with at least two unspecified letters and ending with se

????????. --> it finds words with eight characters.

Settings

You can customize the offline dictionary according to your need by settings several parameters. The settings panel provides the following items:

- Theme (change background, text color)

- Font size (scale the dimension of text)

- Orientation (automatic, portrait and landscape)

- Only uppercase and line spacing options, useful to improve readibility in case of vision problems

- Customize view (hide/unhide specific sections)

- Floating Action Button (enable/disable the FAB with a specific action)

- Shake Action (enable/disable shake gesture for a specific action)

- Text to Speech (enable/disable TTS, select american or british english, automatic read aloud, speech rate)

- Back key action (goto home or return to previous screen)

- Start up (home page, most recent, random)

- History (disable or select how many items should be kept in recent list)

The following actions can be configued in Floating Action Button and Shake Action settings: Search, Voice Search, Camera, History, Favorites, Notes, Random, Share and Edit Note.
