Who We Are
Established in 1993, GLL is the largest UK-based charitable social enterprise delivering leisure, health and community services. Under the consumer facing brand Better, we operate 240 public Sports and Leisure facilities, 120 libraries, 10 children’s centres and 5 adventure playgrounds in partnership with 50 local councils, public agencies and sporting organisations. Better leisure facilities enjoy over 57 million visitors a year and have more than 700,000 members.

We’ve been operating leisure centres since 1993 and it’s probably what we’re best-known for. Our key services are leisure, libraries and archives, children's centres, arts and events, health, education and sports development.
Our History
GLL has come a long way since we started 31 years ago with one centre in Woolwich. We are now a national organisation with centres from Carlisle to Cornwall plus a presence in Belfast and Cardiff.
The growth journey has allowed us to become one of the most diverse, inclusive and accessible leisure providers.
GLL’s £345m turnover is part of the UK’s £23bn social economy and is challenging private sector providers in the leisure market – showing that a charity can compete successfully at scale.
